Human Resources Generalist

The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for supporting all functions of the Human Resources department. This role will be accountable for staffing, HRIS, compensation/benefits, employee relations, talent management, and the administration of company policies, procedures, and programs. It is designed to support enterprise HR initiatives within the PMO organization and serves as a developmental opportunity for future plant‑based HR leadership roles. Candidates must be willing to relocate to one of Great Dane’s manufacturing locations as advancement opportunities arise. The position will be posted as a Savannah‑based role but may be physically located at any Great Dane manufacturing facility based on business needs, candidate availability, and organizational priorities. The role will support enterprise HR initiatives through the PMO team while maintaining strong connectivity to plant operations across the organization. Responsibilities The role will be embedded within the PMO team to provide flexible support across enterprise HR initiatives while developing the skills and experiences necessary for future advancement. Maintain employee‑related databases, preparing and analyzing reports necessary to carry out the functions of the department and the company. Partner with local management to communicate HR policies, procedures, programs, and laws. Conduct workplace investigations when employee complaints or concerns are brought forth. Advise managers and supervisors on progressive discipline and counsel them on employment issues. Assist with monitoring employee wages and promotions. Process, verify and maintain personnel documentation, including background checks, new‑hire paperwork, E‑Verify, and status changes. Administer benefits enrollment and handle leave of absence requests. Protect employees’ and the company’s interests in accordance with company policies and governmental laws. Handle full‑cycle recruiting: prepare job postings, place recruitment ads, screen applicants and resumes, conduct interviews and reference checks, provide hiring managers with qualified candidates, communicate offers, and negotiate counter‑offers when required. Maintain employee hard‑copy files and input personal data into the HRIS database. Process forms related to HR activities such as new‑hire, change‑of‑status, performance evaluations, benefits, terminations, etc. Respond to day‑to‑day employee questions and inquiries on policy, benefits, payroll, and compensation. Assist the HR Manager in identifying, evaluating, and resolving employee relations, morale, performance, and productivity concerns. Assist the HR Manager with engagement committee events. Complete documentation for employment verifications, medical support, and unemployment claimant responses. Ensure adherence to applicable employment law, regulations, and organizational procedures and policies. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education: Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in human resources or industrial/organizational psychology and directly related experience, including at least two years of experience working with an HRIS; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience: 3 years of progressive HR experience, including employee relations and HRIS. Certifications: PHR/SPHR preferred. Skills: Strong generalist experience. Strong analytical skills and ability to perform statistical analysis. Prior HRIS experience, including applicant tracking systems. Advanced proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Knowledge of recruiting, HR, and organizational development practices and procedures. Ability to recruit and evaluate applicants using independent judgment and discretion. Understanding of administrative procedures and systems. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Positive attitude, high energy, enthusiasm, and attention to detail. Travel: Up to 20%. Physical/Mental Requirements Physical demands: Occasional standing, walking, sitting, handling objects, reaching, talking, and hearing. Specific vision abilities: close and distance vision.
