Job Title: Information Technology (IT) Specialist Department: Information Technology Reports To: IT Director / Systems Administrator / Designated Supervisor FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Employment Type: Full-Time Position Summary The Information Technology (IT) Specialist is responsible for providing technical support, maintaining computer systems and networks, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, and assisting with the management of agency technology infrastructure. This position supports end users across multiple departments and ensures reliable operation of computer equipment, telecommunications, and network systems. The ideal candidate will possess hands-on experience with governmental computer systems, Microsoft environments, Active Directory, computer hardware, software installation, network cabling, and RJ45/RJ11 terminations. The successful candidate must demonstrate strong customer service skills, adaptability, and a willingness to learn new technologies and procedures. Essential Duties and Responsibilities * Provide technical support and troubleshooting for desktop computers, laptops, printers, mobile devices, and peripheral equipment. * Install, configure, maintain, and repair computer hardware and software. * Assist with the administration and maintenance of Microsoft Windows operating systems and Microsoft 365 applications. * Create, modify, and manage user accounts, permissions, and security groups within Active Directory. * Perform routine system updates, software deployments, and security patches. * Troubleshoot network connectivity issues involving wired and wireless networks. * Install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot network cabling, including RJ45 and RJ11 connections. * Assist in the setup and maintenance of switches, routers, access points, and other network equipment. * Assemble, upgrade, and repair computer systems and related hardware components. * Maintain inventory of technology assets and equipment. * Document technical issues, resolutions, and system changes. * Assist with cybersecurity initiatives, including endpoint protection, user access controls, and security awareness. * Support audio/visual equipment and conference room technology as needed. * Respond to help desk requests in a professional and timely manner. * Assist with technology projects and system implementations. * Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and comply with applicable security policies and procedures. * Perform other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Education * Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Network Administration, or related field preferred. * Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered. Experience * Minimum one (1) year of experience working with governmental technology systems or in a professional IT support environment. * Experience supporting Microsoft Windows operating systems and Microsoft 365 applications. * Experience with Active Directory user and account management. * Experience with computer hardware installation, troubleshooting, and repair. * Experience with software installation, configuration, and maintenance. * Experience with network cabling and RJ45/RJ11 terminations preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems and Microsoft 365 applications. * Working knowledge of Active Directory administration. * Understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and wireless networking. * Knowledge of computer assembly, upgrades, and hardware troubleshooting. * Ability to diagnose and resolve software and hardware issues. * Ability to read and understand technical documentation. * Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work independently. * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. * Strong verbal and written communication skills. * Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills. * Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism. * Demonstrated willingness to learn and adapt to changing technology environments. * Must be teachable and receptive to training, coaching, and professional development. Physical Requirements * Frequently sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift equipment. * Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. * Ability to work under desks, in server rooms, and other confined spaces as needed. * Ability to distinguish colors for network cabling and equipment indicators. * Ability to operate standard office and computer equipment. Preferred Qualifications * Experience working within a law enforcement, county government, municipal government, or public-sector environment. * CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, or similar industry certifications. * Experience with virtualization, backup systems, cybersecurity tools, and cloud-based technologies. * Familiarity with CJIS security requirements and government information security standards.
