Safety Coordinator

Shirley Parsons is partnering with a leading construction organization to identify a Site Safety Representative to support a large-scale distribution center construction project in the Chicago area. This individual will provide on-site safety leadership, partner with project teams to promote a proactive safety culture, and ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and project-specific safety requirements. Location: Chicago, IL Start Date: ASAP Estimated End Date: July 2027 Schedule: 40 hours per week Key Responsibilities Provide daily on-site safety support for active construction operations. Conduct routine site inspections, safety observations, audits, and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs). Lead new hire safety orientations, toolbox talks, and ongoing safety training. Promote compliance with OSHA regulations, company standards, and project safety requirements. Review subcontractor safety plans and monitor contractor safety performance throughout the project. Support incident investigations, identify root causes, and help implement corrective actions. Maintain accurate safety documentation, inspection reports, and compliance records. Partner with project management and field teams to proactively identify and mitigate safety risks. Monitor high-risk activities including fall protection, confined space entry, crane operations, electrical work, and material handling. Support emergency response planning, site drills, and continuous safety improvement initiatives. Track safety performance metrics and communicate findings to project leadership. Qualifications Minimum of 2 years of construction safety experience , preferably supporting distribution center, industrial, commercial, manufacturing, or mission-critical construction projects . Strong knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926 regulations and construction safety best practices. OSHA 30 certification required. CHST or other BCSP certification preferred. Experience working alongside general contractors and subcontractors on active construction projects. Union construction experience is a plus. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
