Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Mother-Baby/Postpartum position requiring VA or compact license and willingness to float to NICU Level II nursery.

Work in the Mother-Baby / Couplet Care / Postpartum unit

13-week assignment with rotating day/night shifts every 6 weeks

Day shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00-19:30; Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00-7:30

36 hours per week with every other weekend (Fri/Sat for nights, Sat/Sun for days) and every other holiday

Patient ratio of 1:4

Float required within skill set, including to NICU to care for Level II nursery patients

Epic EMR experience required

Requirements

Active VA or compact RN license required

BLS and NRP certifications required; ACLS and NCC_EFM preferred

Minimum 1 year of recent experience in Mother-Baby/Postpartum required

BSN preferred

Epic charting system experience required

Skills required: IV therapy, administration of blood and blood products, starting and maintaining IVs

Preferred skills: maintaining central lines (CVC/PICC)

Experience with antepartum and high-risk antepartum care preferred

Experience with newborn care, postpartum care, and antepartum procedures as outlined in the role

Two professional references required for consideration

Additional Information

Provide couplet care to postpartum and antepartum patients, including newborn assessments and care

Assist with procedures such as NST, EFM, and sterile speculum exams for antepartum patients

Deliver postpartum care including fundus/lochia/perineum checks, breastfeeding support, and cesarean section recovery

Provide newborn care including circumcision site assessment, phototherapy, thermoregulation, and NAS care

Administer medications such as antihypertensives, Pitocin, magnesium sulfate, and insulin drips as needed

Floating to NICU to care for Level II nursery babies, including tube feedings, is required

Maximum of 40 hours RTO approved per 13-week contract, must be disclosed at time of consideration

Any vacation time between sign date and start date must be disclosed to determine an appropriate start date

Previous UVA Health employment as permanent staff or traveler requires 1-year separation and leadership approval

External travelers cannot exceed 365 total assignment days and are not eligible to return after reaching this limit

First-time travelers are not preferred for this role
