Texas Institute of Electronics (TIE) is looking for a Facilities Mechanical Engineer I or II to join our team. As a member of the TIE Facilities team, you'll be directly responsible for overseeing the safe design and operation of various mechanical systems for our semiconductor wafer fab and test facilities. TIE Facilities operates over 150 different utility systems that include chemicals, gases, variety of electrical systems, water systems, HVAC, waste, vacuum, and controls. Facilities works closely with TIE’s manufacturing team to understand how the utility systems impact the process as well as how to reduce consumption.
The successful candidate will be proficient in building mechanical systems design, operations and equipment to include chillers and boilers, cooling towers, pumps, heat exchangers, filtration systems, piping, HVAC and duct systems. The candidate will be able to execute projects in these areas and provide design, construction, and commissioning support as well as troubleshooting as needed for ongoing operations. It is expected that they have an understanding of requirements and limitations in the following key expertise areas.
Purpose
The Facilities Control Engineer I or II is needed to oversee the safe design and operation of various industrial control and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) software for our semiconductor wafer fab and test facilities. TIE Facilities operates over 150 different utility systems that include chemicals, gases, variety of electrical systems, water systems, HVAC, waste, vacuum, and controls.
Responsibilities
- Design, install and operate PLC controllers and field instruments to include PLC programming, installation and calibration of various types of instruments for continuous operation and accurate and reliable data collection of various building utility systems.
- Troubleshoot control systems due to unstable operations or equipment failure and remedy the problem via equipment replacement and/or modifying PLC loop tuning parameters and/or programming to improve system performance.
- Use Process Flow Diagrams and P&ID documents to properly design, install, and commission a variety of equipment used to operate and control building utility systems.
- Provide oversight of the building control systems with a focus on safety, operational reliability and security.
- Other related functions as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Facilities Control Engineer I:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- At least 5 years' experience in control systems engineering, design and construction
Facilities Control Engineer II:
- Master’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- At least 3 years' experience in control systems engineering, design and construction
For both levels:
- General knowledge of building systems and an understanding of how building control systems are integrated with these systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot control systems due to unstable operations or equipment failure and remedy the problem via equipment replacement and/or modifying PLC loop tuning parameters and/or programming to improve system performance.
- Ability to use Process Flow Diagrams and P&ID documents to properly design, install and commission a variety of equipment used to operate and control building utility systems.

Salary Ranges
Facilities Control Engineer I:
$120,000+ depending on qualifications
Facilities Control Engineer II:
$140,000+ depending on qualifications

Work Shift
- Monday – Friday, typical office hours plus occasional after-hours work.
- This is a 24x7 facility; there may be occasional nights/weekends to maintain production availability.

Retirement Plan Eligibility:
The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position may have the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, dependent upon the job profile you qualify for, and subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
