Position Details

• Location: Alton Memorial

• Schedule: Monday - Friday

• Shift: Day Shift (8:00 AM - 2:00 PM)

Overview

Since 1937, Alton Memorial Hospital has cared for residents in Alton, Illinois, and the surrounding communities in a five-county area. Starting as a land gift to the community from the Smith family, Alton Memorial today is a full-service acute care hospital. Alton Memorial offers patients a variety of inpatient and outpatient services, including surgery services, medical imaging, interventional and diagnostic heart services, cancer care, rehabilitation, 24-hour emergency care, ambulance services and more.

Digestive Health Center provides gastrointestinal endoscopic exams to adults and geriatric persons in need of endoscopic exams. Besides direct observation, endoscopy enables biopsy, polyp removal, dilatation and stenting of strictures. Endoscopic exam can provide cautery to bleeding area and may including hemorrhoidal coagulation. Small bowel capsule endoscopy is also available through the Digestive Health Center. It is located on the 2nd floor of the Hatch Building.

Role Purpose

The Sterile Processing Technician performs a variety of central sterile processing functions, which include the decontamination, preparation, sterilization and distribution of sterile surgical instrumentation to the operating room (OR) and other areas throughout the hospital. Required to maintain and control both sterile and non-sterile supplies, and identify and remedy equipment and process failures and hazards while maintaining the appropriate and complete records.

Responsibilities

• Assembles and processes instruments sets, trays, supplies and linen; prioritizes trays and tasks according to the surgery schedule.

• Utilizes and troubleshoots steam sterilizers.

• Follows proper techniques and procedures to ensure the integrity of the sterilization process.

• Disassembles, decontaminates, and processes instrumentation according to manufacturer and industry standards.

• Ensures instrumentation is reassembled correctly and functioning properly.

• BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
