FULL TIME RESEARCH ENGINEER

New York University Tandon School of Engineering

The Visualization Imaging and Data Analysis Center (VIDA) at NYU's Tandon School of Engineering is a multidisciplinary research hub focused on developing innovative solutions to complex data challenges. We collaborate with academic, industry, and government partners to advance the state of the art in computer and data science to support data-driven exploration.

VIDA is seeking talented Research Engineers to join our dynamic team. This position involves research and development in data science and engineering areas relevant to ongoing projects in the VIDA Center. Our projects span implementation-focused and method-focused directions, as well as multidisciplinary collaborations across domains.

Responsibilities

The ideal candidates will contribute to projects involving:

• Design and development of novel visualization, AI, data management and data analysis methods
• Creation of systems for managing, analyzing, and visualizing large datasets
• Application of machine learning and AI techniques to domain-specific challenges
• Collaboration with domain experts from fields such as urban computing, biomedical research, and beyond

Salary range

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $60,000-$80,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific funding source and the terms of the research grant contracts when extending an offer.

The position would come with a competitive salary, full benefits, and opportunities for career development, including teaching opportunities if those are desired. Appointment lengths are negotiable.

Expected start date and period of employment

We are looking for candidates that can start as soon as possible. This position is expected to be for 1 year with the possibility of renewalv subject to available funding and job performance.

Qualifications

MS or BS degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field, with practical software engineering experience. Strong programming and a track record of building and optimizing complex codebases. Experience contributing to open-source communities and deploying software is a strong plus.

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated background in the following:

• Strong programming skills and experience with data analysis
• Database systems and big data management
• Information integration and data engineering
• Data visualization and visual analytics
• Machine learning and artificial intelligence
• Software development and system design
• Experience with open-source software development
• Domain expertise in urban computing, biomedical research, or other applied fields
• Experience collaborating on multidisciplinary research teams
