About the Position

Travel First Assist / CVOR CST

Contract | 13 Weeks | Days, 6:30 AM – 5:00 PM, 4x10-hour shifts | Holidays and call required | Block scheduling option available

Key Responsibilities

• Act as the primary surgical assistant during cardiovascular surgeries, supporting the surgeon with tissue handling, exposure, hemostasis, and incision closure
• Maintain a sterile field throughout all surgical procedures and anticipate the surgeon's needs
• Perform cannulation when going on and coming off bypass, and pass cannulation suture as needed
• Assist with room turnover to support the flow of surgical cases
• Suture as directed by the surgeon, demonstrating strong cardiac surgical skills
• Float to the Main OR as needed

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience in a cardiovascular surgical first assist role
• Active BLS certification required
• First Assist certification required
• Must hold one of the following: CST certification, active RN license, or documented evidence of employment as a surgical technologist in a healthcare facility prior to July 1, 2009, or Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) certification
• Proficiency with Cerner EMR
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience in a high-volume cardiovascular surgical environment (approximately 85 surgeries per month)
• Familiarity with block scheduling workflows in a hospital OR setting
