Registered Nurse 4SW Med/Surg/Neuro/Oncology

Registered Nurse

Duties

Help Duties include but not limited to; The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing competent, evidence-based care to patients with oversight of licensed vocational nurses/nursing assistants as appropriate to the setting. The nurse will assist in directing the provision of nursing education, orientation, competencies and providing quality improvement and enhance outcomes utilization. This nurse integrates knowledge, skills, abilities, and judgment and is self-directed in goal setting for managing complex situations. Validates understanding of the rationale for care processes and decisions. Questions clinical practices for the purpose of providing evidence-based care. The nurse will demonstrate the ability to cope with and manage competing priorities. The nurse demonstrates competence in practice and decision-making, deliberate planning, and critical thinking skills. Delivers self-directed, professional nursing practice using the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation) for complex patients based on conscious and deliberate planning with occasional supervision.

  1. Independently plans and delivers technically competent care to patients with complex needs in alignment with the ANA Standards of Nursing Practice
  2. Manages the care of patients, while organizing and prioritizing patient care needs, and ensuring assigned tasks are completed.
  3. Functions as an emerging leader in providing direction to staff to identify, implement and evaluate patient care needs
  4. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to ensure the plan of care is achieved.
  5. Provides and directs others in Veteran/patient driven care that optimizes the patient's experience, satisfaction, and/or safety for a team of patients
  6. Maintains professional boundaries to protect patient vulnerabilities and act in the best interest of the patient. Role models and displays ethical behavior
  7. Recognizes ethical issues related to professional nursing practice and models appropriate action by providing and directing others in the provision of care following established policies and ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses
  8. Models' high reliability principles and I CARE values to improve patient outcomes
  9. Demonstrates knowledge over a wide range of job responsibilities, effectively communicating with individuals and groups to build a strong sense of teamwork and purpose.
  10. Actively contributes to the collaboration process and clearly communicates ideas to promote team success. Makes meaningful and challenging contributions for the betterment of the work group.
  11. Demonstrates compassion for self and others. Makes sound decisions under pressure. Effectively handles multiple demands, anticipates, and resolves conflicts.
  12. Is consistent and dependable in carrying out responsibilities and exercises sound judgement.
  13. Promotes collaborative behavior and team efforts. Is confident of abilities, effectively initiates solutions and, is alert to new opportunities, techniques, and approaches

Preferred Experience

  • BSN
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the American Heart Association (AHA) or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team and communicate professionally with patients, families, and healthcare staff.
  • Exposure to electronic health record (EHR) documentation during nursing program clinical experiences.
  • Demonstrated adaptability, willingness to learn, and a positive attitude in a fast-paced clinical environment. Active interest in pursuing a career in acute care or medical/surgical nursing. New graduate Registered Nurses, including those with recent inpatient clinical experience during nursing school, are encouraged to apply.
  • This position is being filled to support a balanced team of experienced and early-career Registered Nurses. Applicants with a variety of backgrounds, including new graduate nurses with recent inpatient clinical experience and those with prior Medical/Surgical nursing experience, are encouraged to apply. Selections will be made to best meet the current needs and skill mix of the Medical/Surgical unit.

Pay

Competitive salary, regular salary increases, potential for performance awards

Paid Time Off

50 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)

Licensure

1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory

Work Schedule

Full-Time; Night Shift/ 12 hours; 1830-0700. Tour subject to change depending on the needs of facility
