Job Description
Propulsion Technician
Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Location: Moriarty, NM
Reports To: Propulsion Engineering Manager
Who Are We:
Sceye is a high-growth technology company, building the next generation of instant communications, imaging and remote sensing infrastructure through stratospheric platforms.
Our lighter-than-air high-altitude platform systems (LTA HAPS) are capable of maintaining position over an operational area in the stratosphere (altitudes of 18 – 21km). They can carry multiple telecommunications, imaging and remote sensing payloads, providing unique functionality, cost, environmental and societal advantages.
Our HAPS can be deployed in a matter of days and at a fraction of the cost of traditional infrastructure solutions. This makes them an ideal solution for providing telecommunications connectivity, emergency solutions in the event of natural or other disasters, environmental and infrastructure monitoring, Earth observation and a range of defense applications.
Our customers & partners include some of the largest global telecommunications companies, infrastructure operators, climate researchers, civil and defense agencies.
At Sceye, we aim high, and we want you to join us at the stratospheric edge of innovation. As part of our mission-driven team, you’ll contribute to building breakthrough technologies that are changing the way we connect and observe the world. We are looking for individuals who bring not only deep expertise but also bold vision and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
About the Position:
The Propulsion Technician will support the development, testing, integration, and maintenance of propulsion systems critical to the performance of Sceye’s stratospheric platforms. This individual will work hands-on with mechanical, fluid, and propulsion components, ensuring systems meet stringent safety, quality, and performance standards.
This position requires mechanical aptitude, precision, hands-on fabrication & assembly experience as well as a strong commitment to safe operations and continuous improvement.

- Create wiring and harnesses required in propulsion sub-system builds based on technical drawings and schematics.
- Support propulsion system integration into HAPS frames and related ground support equipment.
- Follow detailed work instructions, technical drawings, schematics, and test procedures.
- Conduct safe handling and storage of hazardous materials.
- Support propulsion system ground tests and flight operations, including pre-flight and post-flight inspections.
- Document work performed with thorough notes, photographs, and maintenance records.
- Assist engineering teams in modifying designs based on test results and operational feedback.
- Adhere to all safety standards, protocols, and aerospace quality requirements.
- Participate in troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support company objectives.
What We’re Looking For:
- High school diploma or GED required. Associate degree or technical certification in aerospace technology, mechanical systems, or related field preferred.
- 2+ years experience working on propulsion, fluid systems, mechanical assemblies, or aerospace systems.
- Hands-on experience with mechanical fabrication, fitting installation, wire harness assembly and mechanical testing.
- Proficiency with precision tools (e.g., torque wrenches, pressure gauges, calipers).
- Strong understanding of mechanical drawings and schematics.
- Knowledge of safe handling practices for composite parts and assemblies.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, and team-driven environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a detail-oriented mindset.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Must be willing and able to travel occasionally for testing or operational support.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in aerospace (commercial spaceflight, high-altitude platforms, UAVs, aviation maintenance).
- Prior work experience with high-pressure systems.
- Any prior CAD experience is a plus
- Prior experience working with composites
- FAA A&P (Airframe and Powerplant) certification a plus.
- Familiarity with test operations and data acquisition systems.
