Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical Surgical

Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Nights (1930–0730) | Every other weekend required (Saturday and Sunday) | Holiday rotation required

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care on a 63-bed surgical acute unit, managing post-operative surgical patients, trauma cases, and overflow medical patients
• Perform wound care, dressing changes, IV therapy, pain management, drain management, NG tube care, central line care, and TPN administration
• Monitor patients on telemetry; bedside RNs are not required to read strips independently — central monitor techs are available
• Manage patient inhalers and place patients on CPAP as needed; respiratory therapy manages nebulizer treatments
• Collaborate with PCTs, charge nurses, and house supervisors to maintain safe patient ratios and quality care
• Float to units with equivalent experience level as needed; travelers are first to float

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license, or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Must comply with a drug-free campus policy and produce a negative drug screen for all panels
• Must live more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible at the standard contract rate

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience in post-operative patient care
• Strong critical thinking skills and willingness to ask for help when needed
• Good bedside manner and ability to work effectively as part of a team
• Familiarity with Epic EMR
