About the Position

Job Title: Pediatric Cardiac Sonographer II Profession: Clinical Technicians Specialty: Pediatric Echo Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Days, 3 days of call a month required - Fri/Sat/1 weeknight or 2 weeknights/Sunday. May be scheduled off-site. Hours per Shift: 40 hours guaranteed Experience: 3 to 5 years of experience as a certified or registered cardiovascular or radiologic technology professional License: Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association Certifications: Cardiovascular or Radiologic certification through ARRT, CCI, or ARDMS Must-Have: Graduate of a CAAHEP accredited educational program with an emphasis in a primary cardiovascular or radiologic specialty Description: Under general to limited supervision and direction, this intermediate-level position accepts independent clinical and non-clinical duty assignments necessary to deliver specialized cardiovascular and/or radiologic technology services to pediatric patient populations. This role aids medical staff in the diagnosis, care, treatment, and surveillance of simple to complex conditions, defects, and/or diseases. Responsibilities core to the position include maintaining competencies required to perform essential duties and responsibilities of a Level I position. Utilizing intermediate-level professional knowledge, abilities, and skills, the role provides safe, high-quality, efficient, and cost-effective patient-centric care and support services under routine or emergent conditions. Work may be performed in acute inpatient facilities, outpatient physician practices, diagnostic/urgent care centers, and remote statewide outreach clinics. The Pediatric Cardiac Sonographer prepares patients for procedures and correlates clinical history with procedures ordered by physicians. Effective communication and collaboration with patients, families, and other members of the multidisciplinary care team are essential to achieve desired clinical outcomes. The position involves utilizing specialized imaging equipment and techniques to perform a diverse range of diagnostic, interventional, and/or surgical procedures according to established guidelines. Conducts post-procedure reviews without assistance to confirm all required study elements are completed and documented. Transfers images and data to appropriate archival systems, enters technical data/findings, and prepares studies for physician reporting. Performs quality control checks, cleaning, high-level disinfecting, and other user maintenance according to regulatory guidelines. Participates in continuing education, professional development, and research activities to maintain competencies and promote continuous improvements in care and treatments. Provides instruction and mentorship to less experienced team members and prepares in-service training pertinent to the assigned service area. Assists with quality assurance and performance improvement tasks as assigned and may perform other duties as assigned. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to work as part of a team, follow instructions, and maintain accurate records while being sensitive to patients' physical and psychological needs. Attention to detail and the ability to multitask and remain calm in stressful situations are necessary for success in this role. The Pediatric Cardiac Sonographer must possess the ability to communicate professionally, courteously, and compassionately with patients and their families while exercising discretion and sound judgment in handling confidential information.
