The Phlebotomist plays a crucial role in the healthcare system by performing venipuncture and capillary puncture procedures to collect blood specimens from patients. They ensure the accuracy of patient identification, label and handle specimens appropriately, and maintain a safe and sterile environment during blood collection.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Perform Blood Collection Procedures:
   
   
   • Conduct venipuncture and capillary puncture procedures according to established protocols.
   • Verify patient identity and ensure accurate labeling of specimens.
2. Maintain Sterile Environment:
   
   
   • Adhere to infection control and safety protocols to prevent contamination and ensure the safety of patients and healthcare providers.
3. Handle and Transport Specimens:
   
   
   • Properly label and store collected specimens for transportation to the laboratory.
   • Ensure timely and accurate documentation of collected samples.
4. Communicate Effectively:
   
   
   • Interact with patients in a professional and compassionate manner to explain procedures, alleviate concerns, and provide clear instructions.
5. Maintain Equipment and Supplies:
   
   
   • Ensure phlebotomy equipment is clean, calibrated, and in good working order.
   • Monitor and restock supplies as needed.
6. Recordkeeping and Documentation:
   
   
   • Maintain accurate records of phlebotomy procedures, including patient information, collection times, and any complications.
7. Collaborate with Healthcare Team:
   
   
   • Work closely with nurses, doctors, and other healthcare professionals to ensure accurate specimen collection and processing.
