Position Summary
The Division of Humanities, Social Sciences, Media and the Arts is seeking applications for a full-time, interdisciplinary Visiting Assistant Professor (VAP). The department home will be based on the selected candidate's credentials (the Departments of Sociology, Political Science and Africana Studies & History are available options). Candidates who can support the International Comparative Labor Studies (ICLS ) initiative by helping to develop and to teach courses for a new ICLS minor, are of particular interest. This position is entirely funded by generous grants from the Prudential Foundation and the Wellspring Philanthropic Fund. The goal is to increase capacity to institutionalize ICLS through having both senior and junior level faculty. Preferred qualifications include a terminal degree with emphasis on labor, workers and/or employee ownership. We are especially interested in candidates who can design and teach new courses for the ICLS minor curriculum. The successful candidate will have a teaching load of up to 4 courses per year, including contributions to the College's General Education curriculum. The candidate is also expected to maintain an appropriate level of scholarly work and service for Visiting Professor status. We are looking for a colleague who thinks creatively about their teaching, engages in scholarship, and can be committed to the mission of Morehouse College-to develop men with disciplined minds who lead lives of leadership and service by emphasizing the intellectual and character development of its students and by assuming a special responsibility for teaching the history and culture of black people. The start date is August 1, 2026. An official transcript will be required of the selected candidate. Required Qualifications
Ph.D. in labor studies or in social science, history or economics with an area focus on labor/workers and/or cooperatives and employee ownership. Preferred Education/Experience Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Salary will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the qualifications of the selected candidate, budget availability, and internal equity. Teaching Responsibility
Two courses per semester (or 12 credit hours annually). Specific course assignments and scheduling for each faculty member is determined in consultation with the Department Chair and Division Dean. Candidates who apply are asked to identify their strengths and experiences in assisting Black men and men of color from diverse cultural and socio- economic backgrounds to accomplish curricular goals. The successful candidate will be expected to support the College's general education curriculum. Appointment and Evaluation
One-year appointment from August 1, 2026 to July 31, 2027, unless renewed by the College. Renewal is subject to availability of funding as well as a satisfactory performance evaluation conducted by Department Chair and the Humanities, Social Sciences, Media, and Arts (HSSMA) Division Dean. Search

- Advanced Ph.D. candidates with at least 18 hours in labor studies or employee ownership will be considered.
- 2 years teaching experience.
- Evidence of productive scholarship.
Ph.D. in labor studies or in social science, history or economics with an area focus on labor/workers and/or cooperatives and employee ownership. Preferred Education/Experience Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ph.D. in Africana Studies, History, Political Science or Sociology or related field.
- Experience teaching within an online learning management system.
- Paper(s) accepted by scholarly professional associations.
- Research accepted for publication
- Knowledge of pedagogical strategies and methods of student assessment.
- Computer literacy and instructional technology skills required.

- Develop course content and other course materials in support of course and learning outcomes and adhere to departmental required texts, if any.
- Prepare, administer, and grade assignments and examinations in a timely manner to inform students about their progress and to provide opportunities which will allow students to succeed.
- Schedule and maintain appropriate office hours proportionate to the instructional assignment and provide timely communication to students utilizing Morehouse network.
- Utilize instructional technology (Banner, Blackboard, and Starfish) required by Morehouse College.
