Position Title: School Nurse

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

Term: Twelve (10) month position, salaried

Position Summary and Responsibilities

It is the position of the School Nurse to protect and promote student health, facilitate optimal development, and advance academic success. Every child has access all day, every day to a full-time registered professional school nurse. The school nurse serves in a pivotal role that bridges health care and education. Grounded by standards of practice, services provided by the school nurse include leadership, community/public health, care coordination, and quality improvement.

• Provide first aid care and health assessment
• Write care plans and coordinate the care of students with chronic or acute health conditions
• Communicate with teachers and staff to ensure the safety and well-being of students
• Administer medications and monitor delegated medication administration
• Coordinate and provide vision and hearing screenings
• Assist families in accessing health insurance and health care services
• Educate and train staff on asthma, life threatening allergies, diabetes, and blood borne pathogens.

Other duties as assigned by the Principal of Instruction or CEO

Key Competencies: Verbal and written communication skills, professional personal presentation, customer service oriented, information management, organizing and planning, attention to detail, initiative, reliability, stress tolerance

Education and Experience: Bachelors Degree in Nursing, Registered Nurse, Pennsylvania RN License, School Nurse certification
