Registered Nurse OR Garden City

Job TitleOur Client is currently seeking a Registered Nurse for their Operating Room division.Job DescriptionResponsibilities include, but are not limited to performing the following activities:Patient Care:Pre-Operative:Check surgeon's preference card for the caseAssist scrub nurse with gathering suppliesSet up OR: Position bed, Bair Hugger, calf compression device, liposuction machines, hook up suction, bovie plug, all necessary power cords in outlets, test equipment to be usedCheck patient chart for surgical and informed consents, pre-op orders and clearancePerform verification with OR staff for correct patient, procedure, site/lateralityConfirm that surgeon has signed all paperworkDraw up all medications and/or tumescent for caseReceive report from admitting nurseIntra-Operative:Assist patient to OR table and apply safety strapAssist Anesthesiologist with inductionInsert foley if requestedAssist with positioning of patientScrub/prep patient if neededConnect suction tubing/cautery/liposuction tubing and cordsPerform counts with scrub nurseAnticipate needs of surgical teamMaintain operative nursing records and timesReceive and package patient specimens. Include patients name, site, date and MD on each containerClosing Phase/Post-Operative:Prepare/gather dressings/garmentsPerform counts with scrub nurseAssist with patient transfer to recovery room and give report to recovery room nurseAssure completion of OR recordsLog specimens in specimen log book (nursing office, 4th floor)Follows protocol for documentation of specimen in NextechLog patients in OR case log book (in office, 3rd floor)Assure clean up of OR room- unplug equipment, place necessary items in red bags, put away unused items, assist orderly as neededReview next day's schedule and assist scrub nurse with picking suppliesPrepare OR bed for next day's caseAssure that OR suite is adequately stocked at all timesRequirements:Educational Requirements:Current NYS RN licensure requiredBachelor's degree preferredBLS certification requiredTraining in plastic surgery nursing preferredJob Requirements:NYS RN LicenseExperience working in a plastic surgical officeQualifications and Experience:Minimum one year of work experience in the OR settingUnderstanding of ASPS, and ASPSN standards; OSHA guidelines for ambulatory practice, quality assurance required.Familiarity with cosmetic procedures and reconstructive surgery preferred
