Job Description
Job Title: Registered Nurse

Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in acute/inpatient psychiatric care

License: Required

Certifications: BLS Certification, CPI (preferred)

Must-Have: Good de-escalation and strong communication skills

Description:


The unit has 25 licensed beds with 3 adult beds and 6 adolescent beds.

Nurse to patient ratios are currently 3:1 for adults and 6:1 for adolescents.

Patient populations include adolescents and adults.

Common diagnoses include depression, anxiety, substance use disorders, psychosis, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia.

Experience with adolescents is preferred but not required.

IV skills are rarely needed on this unit.

There may not always be a charge nurse or house supervisor on each shift.

Mechanical restraints and seclusion are rarely used.

Mental health techs are available on the unit.

Occupational therapy is available Monday through Friday.

Respiratory therapy is available as needed.

There are no tele or monitor techs on this unit; nurses are not required to read their own strips.

Shifts are self-scheduled based on seniority.

Weekend coverage is required every other week.

Holiday coverage is required every other year.

Floating to other units may be necessary as needed.

Scrubs can be any color except maroon, and business casual attire is acceptable.

Only the child/adolescent inpatient unit in the region is present.

The unit is locked for security.

Nurses are expected to actively participate in patient care, assisting with rounds and not simply monitoring from the station.

Successful candidates should demonstrate patience and a calm demeanor.


RTO (Request Time Off) must be submitted upfront, and additional requests may not be approved.


The charting system used is EPIC.


BSN is not required.


This position is in an acute care setting.


The trauma level designation is Level 2.


Shifts include nights, with occasional day shifts as needed.


Candidates may not be employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any associated facilities.
