Job Description
The Quality Control Laboratory Technician ensures that all finished products meet established quality and safety standards by performing laboratory testing, analyzing raw materials and finished goods, and supporting quality assurance processes in a food processing and ingredients manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform quality control testing on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products to ensure they meet established specifications and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct laboratory analyses using wet chemistry, microbiology, and other analytical techniques to evaluate product quality and safety.
- Measure and monitor viscosity and other physical and chemical properties of products and raw materials.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain quality control analysis equipment and laboratory instruments according to standard procedures.
- Document test results accurately and promptly using computer systems and data processing tools, ensuring complete and traceable records.
- Assist in quality assurance and GMP-related activities by following established procedures and supporting compliance with FDA and other applicable regulations.
- Identify and report non-conformances, deviations, or unusual test results to the appropriate personnel for investigation and corrective action.
- Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and laboratory safety protocols to maintain a clean, safe, and compliant work area.
- Collaborate with production and quality teams to support continuous improvement of processes and product quality.
- Climb ladders to access work platforms and sampling points as needed and handle materials and equipment safely, including lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Participate in training and shift transitions to ensure consistent testing practices and effective communication across shifts.
Essential Skills
- High school diploma or GED with 1–2 years of related work experience in a laboratory, quality control, or similar environment.
- Ability to use quality control analysis equipment and laboratory instruments effectively and safely.
- Fluency in spoken and written English to read procedures, document results, and communicate with team members.
- Strong mathematical skills to perform calculations, interpret numerical data, and evaluate test results.
- Computer and data processing skills to enter, manage, and analyze laboratory and quality data.
- Ability to climb ladders to reach work platforms and sampling locations.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds safely as part of routine job duties.
- Knowledge of or experience with food science, chemistry, microbiology, biology, and wet chemistry techniques.
- Understanding of quality control and quality assurance principles in a manufacturing or laboratory setting.
- Familiarity with FDA regulations and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in a food-related environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in food science, chemistry, biology, or a related scientific discipline is preferred.
- Experience working in a food processing or food ingredients manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on experience with viscosity measurement and raw materials testing.
- Experience in laboratory analysis related to food science, microbiology, chemistry, or biology.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills to manage multiple tests and samples.
- Ability to work effectively across different shifts and adapt to changing production and testing priorities.
- Willingness to work occasional overtime, including 12-hour shifts when required with prior notification.
Work Environment
This role operates within a quality assurance testing laboratory that supports a food processing and food ingredients manufacturing facility. You will work with laboratory equipment and quality control analysis instruments to test raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products. The position requires working on multiple shifts: initial training takes place on 1st shift (6:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.), followed by assignment to an open shift on either 2nd shift (2:00 p.m.–10:00 p.m., Monday–Friday) or 3rd shift (10:00 p.m.–6:00 a.m., Sunday–Thursday, with occasional Fridays as needed). Some overtime, including potential 12-hour shifts, may be required with prior notification. The environment emphasizes Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), regulatory compliance, and safety, with regular movement around the facility, climbing ladders to work platforms, and lifting up to 50 pounds as part of routine tasks.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $22.00 - $27.00/hr.
