ECMO Specialist RN

The ECMO Specialist RN is responsible for overseeing and managing care for patients on ECMO. This role requires expertise in circuit management and critical care. Experience in a cardiovascular intensive care unit (CVICU) or intensive care unit (ICU) is preferred. Candidates should have prior charge experience. The patient-to-nurse ratio is typically 2:1. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency with charting systems. Familiarity with the Epic charting system is necessary. The ICU setting is fast-paced and requires adaptable skills. Essential skills include activated clotting time (ACT) management, arterial line management, and blood product administration. Candidates must be capable of monitoring for complications and managing emergencies effectively. Knowledge of continuous IV sedation and paralytics is also essential. Demonstrated competency in ECMO protocols and management is required. The role includes care for patients with acute and chronic health issues. Candidates should be prepared to float to other critical care areas if necessary. Specific training related to ECMO is mandatory. Team collaboration with other healthcare professionals is vital in this role. The ECMO Specialist RN must adhere to infection prevention protocols. Strong communication skills are essential for working with interdisciplinary teams. Candidates must maintain a current understanding of ECMO and related technologies. Overall, this position requires a high level of skill, dedication, and professional integrity.
