Shift: 2nd shift, Monday–Friday, 3:00 PM–11:00 PM, 37.5 hours/week

Job Description

We are seeking a  Building Service Worker (Custodian) to join our team. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in  commercial custodial services and floor care equipment and a proven ability to  deliver consistent, high-quality cleaning and facilities support in academic buildings and residence halls .

 

Responsibilities:

• Clean assigned spaces daily per schedule. Empty wastebaskets and recycling containers. Transport trash to pick up locations. Turn off lights in unoccupied rooms, lock doors where required, and secure windows.
• Spot clean walls, doors, partitions, and switch plates. Sweep, dust mop, wet mop, and spray buff floors. Vacuum and spot clean carpets. Operate auto scrubbers in hallways. Assist with water pickups using mops or wet vacuums/extractors. Clean and replenish chalkboards/whiteboards, trays, and erasers.
• Clean and disinfect restrooms and showers including sinks, toilets, mirrors, and floors. Disinfect shower curtains. Clean drinking fountains and emergency eyewashes. Replenish supplies and request stock to avoid shortages or overstocking. Clean interior glass and furniture.
• Dust flat and vertical surfaces, window sills, desks, tables, chairs, file cabinets, bookshelves, blinds, vents, radiator grills, ceilings, and light fixtures to remove dust and cobwebs.
• Clean Venetian blinds, HVAC grills, stairwells, handrails, push bars/plates, kickplates, and elevator interiors and tracks.
• Communicate daily with supervisor on progress and issues. Report quality control concerns and recommend solutions. Support recycling programs and report noncompliance areas.
• Maintain clean and orderly custodial closets. Manage and return issued keys at end of shift.
• Assist coworkers in other areas as needed. Support security and maintenance during emergencies.
• Coordinate supply levels to avoid shortages and overstock. Track and maintain assigned equipment and submit for repair when needed.
• Follow university safety procedures. Use required protective gear. Mix chemicals and operate electrical equipment with caution. Report accidents and injuries immediately.
• Identify and report issues requiring Security or Maintenance support. Cooperate during emergencies. Perform other similar duties as assigned.

 

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• 3 years of commercial cleaning experience, preferably in a large institution.
• High school education.
• Ability to read and follow instructions.
• Familiarity with cleaning tools, supplies, and safety equipment.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to pass a required physical examination.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, walk and stand frequently, bend, stretch, climb stairs, and operate power equipment such as high-speed buffers, auto-scrubbers, wet vacuums/extractors, and pressure washers.
• Consistent attendance.
• Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors, customers, and students face to face.

 

Preferred Skills:

• Experience supporting academic or residential campus environments.
• Experience with recycling program support and quality control reporting.
