Controls Engineer

Position Overview
We are seeking a Controls Engineer to design, implement, and support control systems that improve manufacturing and production performance and reliability. The role focuses on PLC, HMI, and VFD programming and integration, managing installation and commissioning activities, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver safe, efficient automation solutions. The ideal candidate will combine hands-on field experience with strong problem-solving skills to ensure systems meet production, quality, and safety requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, program, and maintain PLC control logic for new and existing automation systems (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar).
• Develop and configure HMI screens and operator interfaces to provide intuitive control and diagnostics for production staff.
• Specify, program, and troubleshoot VFDs and motor control systems to optimize machine performance and energy usage.
• Lead or support installation and commissioning activities on site, including wiring verification, loop checks, and system startup.
• Perform root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions for control system failures and intermittent issues.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing engineers to integrate control systems into production lines and validate system requirements.
• Create and maintain detailed technical documentation, including electrical schematics, control narratives, I/O lists, and commissioning reports.
• Provide training and technical support to operations and maintenance personnel to ensure safe, effective system operation.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards, electrical codes, and company procedures during design, installation, and commissioning phases.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience in industrial control systems, preferably in manufacturing environments.
• Proven experience programming PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or equivalent) and developing HMI applications.
• Familiarity with VFD selection, programming, and troubleshooting in motor control applications.
• Demonstrated experience with installation and commissioning of automated equipment, including field wiring and startup activities.
• Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills, with experience performing root-cause analysis and applying corrective actions.
• Working knowledge of electrical schematics, I/O lists, and control system documentation practices.
• Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate across engineering, production, and maintenance teams.
• Willingness to travel to manufacturing sites for installations and commissioning as required.
