INSTRUCTIONAL SYSTEMS SPECIALIST

Job Title

The purpose of this position is to provide development, management, and execution of educational programs for SOS and AU, the Intellectual and Leadership Center of the Air Force.

AU is a military education system that develops leaders for the long war and beyond and educates all levels of Airmen, enlisted, officers, and civilians through in-residence and distance-learning courses to meet emerging geopolitical challenges faced by the United States. Developing adaptive and innovative students who will produce and disseminate new ideas is crucial to the security of our nation. Squadron Officer School (SOS) supports AU's important developmental role through its mission to produce all active duty officers as leaders of integrity ready to fly, fight and win in air, space and cyberspace. SOS is an intensive graduate-level course covering a multitude of academic areas, teaching over total force captains, GS-09 through GS-12 Department of Air Force civilians and international officers per year. The compressed class schedule drives an aggressive change cycle, which requires general knowledge of multiple specialties in order to drive innovative solutions to complex instructional design problems. The course is constantly adapting to cutting-edge educational technology, world events, DOD policy, and evolving educational theory requiring faculty and staff to be constantly updated on new developments.

Duties:

• Plans, develops, executes and evaluates a comprehensive range of educational programs for officers and their instructors.
• Teaches in support of relevant Air University programs as required and serves as lead for faculty development opportunities in support of Air University's and SOS' mission.
• Evaluates courses, making adjustments as necessary to curricula, teaching methodologies, schedules, etc., based on internal and external evaluation analysis including graduate and supervisor feedback and input from other instructors.
• Accomplishes special projects and conducts individual and student research: Develops and implements special projects designed to resolve issues, improve education, respond to specific taskings, answer internal and external inquiries, or correct deficiencies.
• Develops and maintains professional contacts with a variety of levels and organizational elements, Major Commands, Air Staff, DoD and other government agencies.
