Director of Software Engineering, VPC

Salary: $64,000 - 104,000 per year Requirements:

• We need 12+ years of experience in systems engineering, networking, distributed systems, or similar infrastructure disciplines, with expanding scope and influence.
• We need a track record of leading cross-functional technology teams delivering complex platforms or products at scale.
• We need experience influencing across functions and managing senior stakeholder relationships to deliver results across multiple teams.
• We need practical experience in system design, application development, testing, and maintaining operational stability for mission-critical infrastructure.
• We need strong engineering expertise in one or more of these languages: Go, Python, C/C++, or Rust.
• We need hands-on exposure to software-defined networking technologies such as OVN, OVS, or comparable solutions.
• We need expert-level understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, routing, switching, and load balancing.
• We need experience with modern engineering practices such as CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and observability.
• We need substantial cloud-native experience.
• We need experience hiring, developing, and recognizing talent while fostering an inclusive engineering culture.
• We need a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

• We lead the strategy and evolution of multiple products, applications, and technologies across a portfolio, setting technical direction and driving measurable results.
• We design and architect key JPMC-VPC components, including the control plane, data plane, software gateways, load balancers, and IPAM systems.
• We drive technology and process implementations that meet functional objectives across teams and departments.
• We create innovative solutions and deliver new production capabilities that are durable and reusable.
• We provide governance over coding choices, control responsibilities, and outcome measures such as cost of ownership, maintainability, reliability, and operational performance.
• We make decisions affecting team resources, budgets, tactical operations, and the execution of processes and procedures.
• We promote engineering excellence through CI/CD, infrastructure as code, testing, observability, and strong operational stability.
• We communicate complex technical topics, trends, and approaches to senior leadership to support informed investment decisions.
• We collaborate with vendor partners and engage in open-source communities and industry forums when appropriate.
• We hire, coach, recognize, and develop talent to build high-performing, inclusive teams.
