Primary Care Physician

Valor Healthcare is looking for a passionate Primary Care Physician to join our team at the Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) in Danville, VA. This position is 2.5 days/week, 20 hours/week.

As a Primary Care Physician, you will provide prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to patients with diseases and injuries seeking treatment in the clinic, as directed by physician or mid-level provider. You will collaborate with the core PACT Team (Primary Care Provider, RN and Medical Assistant) and expanded PACT Team including family/caregiver, VA, and community-based services involved in developing the patient care plan.

Core responsibilities include:

• Actively diagnosing and treating veterans.
• Examining patients for symptoms of organic or congenital disorders, determining nature and extent of injury/disorder, and performing comprehensive physical examinations.
• Developing and implementing patient management plans and assisting in provision of continuity of care.
• Ordering and performing diagnostic tests.
• Prescribing medication and recommending dietary and activity programs as indicated by diagnosis.
• Counseling patients on the use of prescription medications, educating patients, assessing mental health issues, and providing routine health maintenance.
• Evaluating patients' records from medical providers outside the VA and working with these patients utilizing rules set forth by the VA for co-managed care.
• Completing any and all clinical reminders "due" at the time of each patient visit.
• Completing the documentation of the medical record within 24 hours of a patient encounter.
• Soliciting medical management consult or input when appropriate.
• Complying with all VA guidelines in regard to appropriate and timely response to all patient request, alerts and notifications, consults, orders, lab results and diagnostic studies.
• Complying with the VA formulary process and consult protocols.
• Serving as a collaborative physician to mid-levels where appropriate and needed.
• Complying with all VA guidelines in regard to appropriate and timely clinical documentation, including the completion of all encounters by close of business.
• Addressing the clinical needs of all walk-in/triage/urgent care patients.
• Complying with all VA and company training requirements.
• Complying with VA requirements related to women's health certification and competencies, as well as any elements needed for maintenance of such certification.
• Fulfilling compliance requirements of the Office of Inspector General (OIG), Joint Commission (JC), Environment of Care (EOC) oversight, lab compliance and other related items.
• Remaining focused on achieving excellent clinical outcomes through the specified VA guidelines.
• Providing excellent customer service to each veteran, both in person and over the phone, as well as to fellow colleagues and clinic visitors.
• Participating in the clinic's outreach events to help support the clinic's enrollment initiatives.
• Supporting patient enrollment and retention by providing guidance, when necessary, regarding scheduling, follow-up visits or nurse visits.
• Embracing and supporting new initiatives, whether clinical or operational, and executing on key strategic initiatives that drive the success of the Valor business.

Requirements:

Qualifications include:

• 4+ years clinical medical practice; government healthcare environment preferred; specific requirements could vary based on individual VA contract.
• Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine Degree
• Board certified in family practice or internal medicine
• Must be credentialed and remain in good standing through the Veterans Health Administration (VA).
• Must comply with and maintain all requirements for a valid, unrestricted license in the state of desired employment, or in any U.S. state or territory, depending on VA contractual requirements.
• Current certification in Basic Life Support (must be renewed periodically as specified by the certifying agency – AHA valid for two years, e.g.) and in ACLS as specified by individual VAMC contract
• Current, unrestricted Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration
• Proficiency in written and spoken English.
• Excellent computer skills

Final compensation will be based on relevant factors including work experience, skills, certifications, and internal equity.
