Electronics Test & Manufacturing Validation Engineer

Burton Electronics Manufacturing Services

Job Description

Job Description

Shape reliable hardware in Michigan’s Western Upper Peninsula

Picture this: a quick ride along the Iron Belle Trail to our Ironwood facility, steps from the Gogebic Range Trail System, with Lake Superior’s beaches a short drive away. Winter? Bike gives way to snowmobile. Burton EMS pairs leading-edge electronics work with an outdoor-lover’s playground—five downhill ski resorts, miles of cross-country and snowshoe trails, and year-round recreation.

A day in this role

Reporting to the Director of Engineering, you’ll ensure product reliability across the production lifecycle. Your mornings may start by planning test strategies and designing fixtures; afternoons could involve troubleshooting a subassembly failure, refining a DFM review, or adjusting a Gerber change for a customer layout. Throughout, you’ll document test cases, interpret results, and keep progress moving.

What you’ll do
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to define, document, analyze, perform, and interpret product and component tests; surface functional issues and propose fixes.
  • Create test processes for manufacturing that demonstrate conformance to industry and customer specifications; develop test apparatus and methods.
  • Execute functional testing on systems, subassemblies, and parts; diagnose defects and malfunctions, and drive corrective actions.
  • Champion continuous improvement by coordinating with engineering on robust fixtures and procedures that enable error-free production.
  • Provide customer design assistance, including Gerber modification and PCB layout using in-house tools.
  • Translate product specifications into manufacturable assembly designs.
  • Support manufacturability reviews for Program Management and Business Development; validate process flow and adherence to customer documentation.
  • Create panel designs and coordinate working files and approvals with PCB providers.
  • Offer design-for-manufacturability feedback, communicating issues and solutions with PM/Business Development teams.
  • Assist PM/Business Development in component selection and alternates through quoting, ECR, and BOM creation.
Quality ownership

You are accountable for quality in alignment with our Quality Manual, SOPs, Work Instructions, and applicable guidance. Responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring compliance with ISO requirements.
  • Initiating action to prevent non-conformities across product, processes, and quality systems.
  • Identifying and recording product, process, and system issues.
  • Proposing and channeling corrective solutions; verifying implementation effectiveness.
  • Controlling processing, delivery, or installation of nonconforming product until issues are corrected.
What you bring
  • Bachelor’s degree (preferred) in Electronics Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Ability to manage multiple design variables and technical attributes while developing products and component tests.
  • Self-starter mindset with urgency for efficient task completion.
  • Strong collaboration skills to ensure plans are executed effectively during manufacturing.
  • Advanced mathematics (including calculus) for design, analysis, and troubleshooting of processes and equipment.
  • Clear verbal communication to convey design intent and guide development and production.
  • Technical writing skills for methods, proposals, parts lists, operations manuals, and maintenance documentation.
Details & benefits
  • Job Type: Full-time
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday
  • Work Location: In person (Ironwood, MI)
  • Benefits: 401(k), Health, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Paid Time Off
Technical proficiency
