SLB is seeking a motivated Mechanical Engineer to support the Engineering Lead and Product Engineering Manager. The engineer will be accountable for the mechanical and piping scope and systems in large‑scale data centers across the design, construction, assembly, testing, installation, and commissioning phases. The role includes checking and approving drawings and designs, ensuring accuracy, reliability, efficiency, and safety of the overall mechanical scope, and supporting plant manufacturing and site installation troubleshooting. Roles and Responsibilities Check and approve drawings, information and documentation that meet industrial standards and code to enable the manufacturing group and other departments to produce data center infrastructure modules. Review and monitor engineering work to assure accuracy and conformance with client and/or company specifications, governing codes, good engineering and safety practices, project procedures, and job requirements. Attend and initiate design and development planning and review sessions to meet customer and industry needs. Prepare technical requisitions (TRs) for mechanical systems and various components. Review vendor quotations and provide feedback to the procurement team. Prepare and complete various mechanical engineering deliverables such as valve lists, equipment lists, piping line lists, piping stress and flexibility studies, line sizing, mechanical equipment data sheets, etc. Prepare bulk material take‑offs (MTOs) and detailed bills of materials (BOMs). Think creatively to find innovative solutions to reduce costs while managing quality, cost, or schedule impacts. Stay informed of new developments and requirements affecting the organization and recommend changes in programs and applications. Interpret, organize, and execute assignments in a self‑driven and self‑sufficient manner. Make independent decisions on technical problems and methods and represent the organization in meetings to resolve important questions. Apply advanced knowledge and experience to resolve crucial issues and unique conditions. Supervision is essentially administrative; assignments are given in broad general objectives and limits. Stay up to date with electrical engineering and data center technology advancements and recommend new technologies to improve reliability and efficiency. Select and specify proper painting and coating systems for data center items. Specify and design piping insulation where needed. Determine brackets, fastening, bolting, and/or mounting of components and major equipment. Advise and assist project and discipline engineers with interpretation and clarification of applicable industry codes and client specifications. Supervise outsourcing of piping engineering work if necessary. Create or check “Design Basis” documents specific to each project, based on applicable codes, client specifications, company scope of supply, and approved exception lists. Perform or check pipe stress analysis with all applicable loads and design combinations in accordance with the Design Basis. Provide piping load information to structural engineers. Review as‑built drawings and re‑run or check calculations as required to ensure conformity. Represent the company with customers during review meetings and act as the primary point of contact for clients, responding to inquiries and concerns promptly. Provide technical support during construction, responding to RFIs and addressing issues that arise. Attend job site visits, project meetings, and commissioning activities as needed. Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field (Industrial Engineering, Mechatronics, etc.). Professional Engineering license preferred. 3 to 10 years of experience in mechanical design and engineering, with focus on data center infrastructure. Ability to produce drawings and sketches. Knowledge of data center construction, operation, and maintenance of mechanical systems and components. Strong knowledge of piping and fire suppression system design and construction. Knowledge of industry standards, codes, and regulations (AISI, ANSI, ASME B31.3, ASTM, OSHA, NFPA, etc.). Experience with CAD and BIM software. Experience with fast‑track design/build projects and significant upgrade projects. Detailed understanding of piping systems, layout, routing, components, and specialty items. Understanding of chillers, cooling towers, evaporative cooling, mechanical control systems, fan systems, acoustics, pumps, vessels, valves, coolers, and other critical equipment. Basic understanding of electrical equipment and system design within data centers. Experience negotiating with regulatory agencies regarding code departures and permitting. Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 suite, PDF editing, CAESAR II, NozzlePro, FEPipe, SAP, SolidWorks, Autodesk Revit, BIM 360, AutoCAD, Navisworks, 3E Plus, Pipe Data Pro, COMPRESS. Fluency in English (written and verbal). Strong problem‑solving, analytical, independent work, self‑management, and self‑driven skills. Must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and perform well under pressure. Must legally work and reside in the U.S. without mandatory sponsorship.
