Senior Living Position Description
Position: CNA/Caregiver
Reports To: Director of Nursing (or Licensed Designee)
Department: Assisted Living Facility (ALF)
Broad Function:
Supervise or assist residents with personal care service, which include activities of daily living and instrumental activities of daily living as identified in the resident service plan and assigned by the nurse.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Gives report to the nurse or designated charge person at the end of their shift.
- Immediately reports any changes to the nurse or designated charge person.
- Supervises, assists residents with ADLs (bathing, grooming, dressing, mobility, continence management, etc.)
- Supervises, assists with dining service, meal assistance/adaptive equipment and snacks.
- Escorts residents to meals and/or activities
- Reports unusual conditions, observations, and pertinent information to the nurse.
- Adheres to resident rights, abuse reporting and confidentiality policies.
- Fosters and maintains an effective working relationship between peers, professional staff, and other personnel within the community.
- Supervises, assists, or provides light housekeeping.
- Supervises, assists, or provides laundering of personal clothing.
- Supervises or assists with telephoning.
- Supervises or assists with the use of transportation.
- Supervises or assists with life enrichment activity programs.
- Promptly responds to resident emergency calls.
- Complies with all documentation policies/procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Guest Relations:
- Demonstrates a courteous, polite, and friendly attitude with residents, families, and visitors.
- Responds to the needs of residents, families and visitors by providing immediate assistance.
- Assists in maintaining contact with residents who are not involved in activities due to illness or injury.
- Functions as a leader of the resident care team, assisting co-workers as needed.
CNA/Caregiver Job Description:
Safety:
- Uses proper body mechanics when bending or lifting.
- Knows the community's disaster and fire safety policies and procedures, including the location and contact use of the fire alarm system.
- Follows the designated plan of action in the event of a fire or other emergency.
- Knows and follows the community's infection prevention policies and procedures.
Performance Requirements:
- Performs all duties according to policy and in a professional manner.
- Demonstrates good judgment with proper decision-making abilities.
- Complies with community attendance policies.
- Attends scheduled staff meetings and/or in-service training.
- Adheres to the departmental dress code requirements related to personal grooming and attire.
- Completes ASHFORD MEMORY CARE Alzheimer's education programs and monthly in-services.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or (GED)
- Must have valid, unrestricted certification in the state of employment. (CNA/CHHIA/CAREGIVER) and maintain CEUs.
- Must demonstrate competency in the following areas:
- Vital signs
- ADLs/IADLs
- Read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- CPR/First Aid Certification preferred (unless required by the state)
- Food handlers permit.
Physical Requirements:
- Must have the strength and endurance required for standing, walking, lifting, bending and pushing.
- Works beyond normal business hours, weekends, holidays, and severe weather situations when necessary.
- Is subject to potential exposure to infectious waste, disease, and conditions etc., including TB, HIV, and Hepatitis B.
Resignation:
Two-week notice is required.
