Trail Crew Member

Location: Seabrook, WA

Classification: Full-time, Non-Exempt

Pay Grade: $19.50 – $22.00 / hour (DOQ)

Job Summary

Trail Crew Members are responsible for the construction of new trails and the ongoing maintenance of bicycle trail systems across both private and public lands. This role requires executing physical outdoor labor in various conditions while operating hand tools and powered equipment safely and efficiently. Ideal candidates will bring a passion for outdoor recreation, mountain biking experience, strong communication, and a dedication to growing within the skilled trades.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Trail Construction & Maintenance: Build new trails and maintain existing bicycle trail systems on private and public lands according to design and safety specifications.

  • Site Preparation & Maintenance: Perform tree and brush clearing, drainage installation/upkeep, excavation, and material hauling.

  • Equipment Operation: Safely operate hand tools and power equipment. Utilize chainsaws, mini excavators, and track loaders (experience preferred but training will be provided).

  • Workplace Safety: Champion safety standards, proper PPE usage, and secure operation of all tools and machinery.

  • Team Collaboration: Maintain clear and active communication with crew leaders and team members to meet project goals and timelines efficiently.

  • Continuous Learning: Demonstrate a strong desire to acquire new skills and advance technical knowledge within trail development and construction trades.

  • General Labor: Execute additional physical labor, infrastructure, and site maintenance tasks as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong verbal communication skills and ability to follow detailed site plans and safety protocols.

  • High level of self-motivation, strong work ethic, and dedication to physical safety standards.

  • Eagerness to learn specialized equipment operation and trail-building techniques.

  • Active interest or background in mountain biking and outdoor recreation is highly preferred.

Education & Experience
  • Required: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.

  • Preferred: Prior experience in trail construction, land maintenance, landscaping, or physical trades.

  • Preferred: Experience operating chainsaws, mini excavators, track loaders, or other heavy machinery (not required).

  • Preferred: Mountain biking experience and knowledge of bike trail design/flow.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

  • Outdoor work environment subject to changing, variable weather conditions for up to 40 hours a week.

  • Ability to carry heavy loads across dirt trails and uneven terrain for distances up to two miles.

  • Regular exposure to dust, fumes, noise, heavy materials, and power tools.

  • Standing, walking, reaching, bending, kneeling, crouching, and performing continuous physical labor over extended periods.

  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to safely operate hand tools, heavy machinery, and power equipment.

Additional Requirements
  • Possess a valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation.

  • Successfully pass a pre-employment background check and drug/alcohol screening.

  • Maintain all necessary industry safety certifications and job-related training requirements.

  • Ability to work 40 hours per week with potential flexibility depending on weather windows and site needs.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Pay Range: $19.50 – $22.00 / hour (Depending on Qualifications / DOQ).
