UACE Tucson Village Farm Farm Assistant

Overview This position will have an AmeriCorps Volunteer serving in an urban farmer role, assisting with the growing and cultivation of both crops and volunteers to maintain an 8‑acre farm in the center of Tucson, Arizona. The role is ideal for someone who wants to work outdoors with volunteers in an arid, dry environment planting, harvesting, cultivating, weeding, and growing over 300 varieties of vegetables. The volunteer will engage in tasks such as growing plant starts, teaching volunteers how to weed or amend a field, and showing the community how to plant lettuce. Responsibilities Assist with growing vegetables and fruit trees over 8+ acres. Assist with the remediation of noxious plants and pests using organic practices. Lead groups of volunteers in vegetable cultivation. Manage volunteer days and assist with farm maintenance. Repair irrigation leaks and assist with pest control. Assist with large events. Qualifications Experience working with youth and the public. Ability to work outside in a variety of weather conditions. Ability to lift over 50 pounds. Willingness to be a hard worker, team player, and flexible.
