ED Patient Care Tech I PD

Summary Reports to the Clinical Manager and assists in providing care to Emergency Department patients and their families from arrival to departure. Performs diverse clerical and patient‑care assistive duties as a member of the healthcare team. Responsibilities Collaborate with Registered Nurses to set priorities, organize work, and communicate all pertinent observations. Administer direct physical care, assist with activities of daily living, and perform selected procedures and treatments according to standards and protocols. Assist with admissions, transfers, and discharges, and collect, record, and report specimen data. Set up and assist with cardiac monitoring devices and run 12‑lead electrocardiograms, reporting findings to the RN. Utilize side rails, restraints, and assistive devices when appropriate; maintain patient and family confidentiality. Advocate for patients and families, reinforce teaching from the RN, and perform other duties within scope of care as assigned. Demonstrate adherence to universal precautions, safety programs, and infection‑control measures; respond appropriately to emergency/code situations. Maintain an environment conducive to patient comfort and safety, including proper use of equipment and reporting needed repairs. Organize and prioritize workload, keep accurate medical records, and perform clerical tasks such as copying, filing, faxing, and paging as required. Utilize hospital computer systems accurately to execute orders, retrieve data, generate reports, and document diagnostic test results. Order, maintain, and manage office and clinical supplies, ensuring equipment and supplies are stocked and delivered when necessary. Attend education sessions, access the Net Learning website, and meet competency requirements through annual checks and mandatory safety education. Follow established NPH/Unit standards, policies, and procedures for absenteeism, tardiness, mandatory education, safety, infection control, HIPAA, and confidentiality. Coordinate continuity of care documentation, fax to Home Care Services when indicated, and obtain copies of medical records as needed. Perform any other duties within the scope of care and policies of Newport Hospital. Qualifications High school graduate or equivalent; entry‑level credentialing in secretarial and nursing assistant skills preferred. Current Rhode Island registration as a Nursing Assistant; Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS). Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide culturally sensitive care to patients across all life stages. Effective interpersonal communication and the ability to multitask complex duties. Basic computer skills and basic knowledge of medical terminology preferred. Legible written and spoken English; consistent use of hospital terminology. Basic knowledge of the hospital’s patient care delivery orientation program. Ability to work independently within department policies and seek guidance on complex problems.
