Part-Time Noncredit Older Adult - Academic Forum Instructor The position is a part‑time Associate Instructor responsible for teaching older adult courses in lecture‑discussion format during day, evening, Saturday, and/or online/distance education across Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters. The role is represented by the West Valley‑Mission Federation of Teachers (WVMFT / AFT Local 6554) and hosted at West Valley College, Saratoga, CA. Position Summary As an associate instructor the applicant will develop and deliver course content, evaluate student performance, maintain accurate instructional records, and support the academic community while fostering a respectful and inclusive learning environment. Responsibilities Provide instruction for assigned courses, including preparing for in‑class or online activities and evaluating student work. Maintain accurate class and other required records, submit attendance rosters and grade reports on time, and follow course outlines filed in the instruction office. Hold weekly office hours (.5 hours per week per section) and consult with students outside of class as needed. Enforce district and college regulations, policies, and programs. Distribute the course syllabus to each student at the beginning of the semester. Refer students to appropriate college resources for counseling and services. Collaborate cooperatively within the college community, fostering an environment that protects academic freedom and respects individual dignity. Maintain the ability to adapt instruction to the diverse backgrounds, disabilities, and orientations of community college students. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree majoring in the subject area, plus either: Thirty hours or two semester units of coursework on older‑adult needs, or One year of professional experience working with older adults. OR an associate degree in the subject area, two years of related occupational experience, and sixty hours (four semester units) of coursework on older‑adult needs. Understanding of and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socio‑economic, ethnic, religious, cultural, disability, and sexual orientations of college students, faculty, and staff. Salary and Benefits Salary is based on a percentage of workload up to 67% of a full‑time load, prorated from an initial range of $38,464 to $55,582 per semester, based on academic achievement, teaching, and related experience.
