Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Technician

Waterside Power is a 70 MW simple-cycle facility in Stamford, CT, designed to provide fast-start, on-demand generation that supports the reliability and stability of the regional electric grid. The plant operates three fuel-oil-fired GE TM2500 units, delivering high operational flexibility and rapid response to fluctuations in electricity demand. As a key peaking resource, Waterside Power plays a vital role in maintaining continuous energy supply and stabilizing the grid during periods of peak load. The Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Technician at the Waterside Power Project plays a hands-on role in operating and maintaining a 70 MW simple-cycle, fast-start, peaking power plant. This position involves performing turbine and auxiliary system operations, inspections, and routine maintenance while following all safety and environmental protocols. The Technician ensures the plant is ready to respond quickly to regional electricity demand, supporting grid reliability and operational stability. Your scope of responsibility as O&M Technician will include the following primary functions: Perform startup, shutdown, and operation of GE TM2500 combustion turbines and auxiliary systems from the DCS or field, ensuring safe and reliable plant operation during normal and emergency conditions. Conduct routine plant inspections, monitor equipment performance, identify abnormal operating conditions, and report or address issues to maintain plant reliability. Operate, monitor, and adjust combustion turbines, fuel systems, air compressors, cooling systems, demineralized water systems, condensers, and other balance-of-plant equipment to maintain safe and efficient operation. Maintain accurate operating logs, equipment records, and shift documentation, communicating plant status and equipment issues to plant management. Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and control systems within the scope of training and qualifications. Support preventive and corrective maintenance activities by assisting with equipment inspections, maintenance planning, spare parts inventory, and system readiness. Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and control system issues, performing repairs or adjustments within established procedures. Operate plant vehicles and support equipment, including forklifts, boom trucks, flatbed trucks, and other utility equipment, in support of plant operations and maintenance. Follow all safety, environmental, and operating procedures, recognizing and correcting unsafe conditions while supporting OSHA and facility compliance requirements. Perform other duties as assigned to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the facility. Working Relationships The O&M Technician reports to the Plant Manager and coordinates with all other plant personnel to ensure safe and reliable plant operations. Physical Requirements And Working Conditions Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, climbing stairs and ladders, working from elevated platforms and walkways at varying heights, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Power plant environment that may involve entering confined spaces, crawling through narrow areas, and handling hazardous materials, with exposure to fumes, extreme temperatures, and noise. Work may include high heat near equipment and varying outdoor weather conditions. Some duties may require the use of protective equipment, which can include hard hats, safety glasses, and eye protection, air masks/respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, flame-resistant clothing (FRC), hot gloves, high-voltage protective gear, and fall protection. Fit testing for respirators may be required. Strict smoking restrictions apply in and around the facility. Fitness for Duty All personnel will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program, which includes a post-offer physical examination, drug screening, and post-employment random drug screening. Work Schedule The O&M Technician works a rotating 12-hour shift schedule, alternating between days and nights to support continuous 24/7 operations and ensure seamless shift transitions. This position will also occasionally necessitate extended working hours and flexible shifts as needed, including weekends and holidays, in response to schedules, workload demands, and plant conditions. Periodic callouts or “On call” status may also be required. Compensation This position offers a base pay rate ranging from $38 to $40 per hour, along with eligibility for an annual performance bonus. Core Qualifications And Skills High school diploma or equivalent required. An associate degree in Power Plant Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field is preferred. Equivalent military or industry experience may be considered. Hands-on experience operating and maintaining gas turbines, auxiliary equipment, and power generation systems, preferably in a simple-cycle or peaking power plant environment. Proficiency performing turbine startup and shutdown, equipment inspections, troubleshooting, and maintenance on mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and control systems. Experience maintaining pumps, valves, rotating equipment, motor controllers, variable frequency drives (VFDs), UPS systems, and other balance-of-plant equipment. Working knowledge of plant instrumentation, electrical systems, process controls, and microprocessor-based control systems. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, operating manuals, and technical procedures while maintaining accurate operational and maintenance records. Strong understanding of OSHA requirements, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), environmental regulations, and safe work practices applicable to industrial or power generation facilities. Strong troubleshooting, analytical, communication, and teamwork skills, with the ability to support fast-response plant operations and work effectively with plant personnel and contractors. Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license and ensure it remains in good standing at all times.
