Job Description and Duties

Are you a seasoned labor relations professional ready to make a meaningful impact at one of California’s most dynamic public organizations? CalPERS is seeking a strategic, collaborative, and highly skilled leader to guide complex labor relations work that directly supports our mission and our workforce.

In this role, you will serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and a key representative in grievance resolution and labor-management strategy. You’ll bring deep expertise in collective bargaining, contract administration, and employee relations, along with the judgment and political acumen needed to navigate sensitive and complex issues with confidence and professionalism.

Telework Information: This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule, with up to two days of remote work and three days or more onsite, per week.

Sponsorship:  This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship. CalPERS does not participate in E-Verify for employment authorization purposes.

Effective July 1, 2025, The California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025). PLP 2025 directs that each employee shall receive a 3 percent reduction in pay in exchange for 5 hours PLP 2025 leave credits, monthly. The salary range(s) included in the job advertisement do not reflect the 3 percent reduction in pay.

• Extensive knowledge of general principles, practices, and trends of labor-management relations and collective bargaining
• Extensive knowledge of communication techniques for gathering, evaluating, and transmitting information to all levels of management, labor unions, control agencies, and others contacted through the course of business
• Ability to read, analyze, and logically interpret and apply appropriate laws, rules, regulations, memoranda of understanding, policies, procedures, and instructions
• Ability to handle stressful or sensitive situations with tact and labor-management diplomacy
