Job Description

The Assembler Technician plays a key role in building high-performance shock absorber assemblies, sub-assemblies, hose assemblies, and accessory kits in a mixed manufacturing and R&D environment. Working under general supervision, this role follows detailed assembly instructions, blueprints, and parts lists to produce components that meet strict quality and productivity standards. The position requires strong mechanical aptitude, the ability to work with hand and power tools, and comfort with standing, lifting, and performing repetitive tasks throughout a 10-hour shift.

Responsibilities

• Study assembly instructions, blueprint specifications, and parts lists to prepare work and understand requirements for each job.

• Gather and organize all required parts, tools, and materials before beginning each assembly task.

• Assemble component parts, shock absorber assemblies, sub-assemblies, hose assemblies, and accessory kits to company specifications and customer expectations.

• Follow approved drawings, diagrams, and other visual aids to complete assemblies accurately and efficiently.

• Apply a solid understanding of the functional operation of individual components and the finished product during assembly work.

• Operate machinery and hand/power tools, including pneumatic presses, torque wrenches, drills, bench grinders, drill presses, and calipers, as needed for production tasks.

• Use a circular saw to cut hose for hose assemblies according to blueprint specifications and measurement requirements, including millimeters.

• Clean and prepare parts and sub-assemblies prior to assembly to ensure quality and proper fit.

• Perform visual and mechanical inspection of parts, sub-assemblies, and finished assemblies to identify defects and other quality issues.

• Report quality concerns to the lead or supervisor and follow direction to resolve issues and prevent recurrence.

• Recommend appropriate changes for process or quality improvements to enhance efficiency and product performance.

• Maintain a safe working environment by following all safety and environmental policies, procedures, and guidelines.

• Advocate for safety by reporting near misses and hazards, wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE), and encouraging safe practices among colleagues.

• Work in accordance with established operating procedures and practices to ensure consistent and safe production.

• Complete housekeeping activities throughout the day, keeping the work area clean and organized by returning tools and materials to designated storage areas.

• Demonstrate integrity and ethical behavior in all activities and maintain accountability for individual performance.

• Collaborate effectively with team members while also being able to work independently to meet production goals.

• Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support production and continuous improvement initiatives.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 1 year hands-on experience in manufacturing, production, or assembly line work.

• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow verbal and written directions accurately.

• Ability to measure using millimeters and work with tape measures and other measuring tools.

• Basic knowledge of hand tools, including torque wrenches, and experience using them safely.

• Mechanical background with demonstrated mechanical aptitude in an industrial or automotive-related environment.

• Ability to read and interpret drawings, diagrams, blueprints, and other written instructions.

• Basic computer skills, including typing, word processing, and printing.

• Ability to navigate and utilize company software tools and programs such as SAP, Oracle, and Microsoft applications.

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and perform repetitious duties throughout the shift.

• Ability to stand and walk on feet for the full 10-hour shift.

• Strong organizational and communication skills to coordinate tasks and share information effectively.

• Ability to work required overtime, which can be substantial during peak customer production periods.

• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

• Demonstrated successful employment track record, preferably in a manufacturing environment.

• Strong personal commitment to maintaining a safe working environment and following safety protocols.

• Knowledge of basic math, including working with decimals, for measurements and calculations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.

• Certificate from a technical or vocational school is desired.

• Experience in mechanical assembly, sub-assemblies, and assembly line work.

• Previous experience in the automotive industry is a plus, particularly with performance or suspension components.

• Experience working with hand and power tools such as bench grinders, drill presses, calipers, pneumatic presses, torque wrenches, and drills.

• Ability to use and interpret blueprints for mechanical assemblies.

• Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on quality and accuracy in all tasks.

• Comfort working in a mixed manufacturing and R&D environment where processes and products may evolve.

• Willingness to learn new skills and adapt to new tools, technologies, and procedures.

• Strong work ethic and reliability, including consistent attendance and punctuality.

Work Environment

The work environment combines a performance shock manufacturing facility with R&D operations, creating a setting focused on precision, innovation, and quality. You will work on a 4-10 schedule, Monday through Thursday, with standard hours from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday off, with potential overtime on Friday depending on workload. The role involves standing on your feet for most of the 10-hour shift, lifting up to 50 pounds, and performing repetitive assembly tasks. You will regularly use hand and power tools, including torque wrenches, pneumatic presses, drills, bench grinders, drill presses, calipers, and circular saws, as well as computers and software systems such as SAP, Oracle, and Microsoft applications. The facility emphasizes safety, requiring appropriate PPE and adherence to safety and environmental policies, and maintains a clean, orderly workspace through ongoing housekeeping activities.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Poway, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
