Overview North Carolina OB/GYN & Midwifery located in Raleigh is seeking an experienced Medical Assistant to join a professional team serving prenatal and gynecological patients in a physician and midwifery practice setting. The practice comprises 4 midwives, 1 nurse practitioner, and 6 MDs. The clinic has four locations: Raleigh, Holly Springs, Cary, and Wakefield. Candidates will cross‑train and must be flexible if asked to cover the Cary location. Prior OB experience is preferred. Work hours are 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:30 am–5:00 pm. Summary The Medical Assistant II, Certified provides routine clinical and administrative support to providers and other health‑care team members in an outpatient clinic setting. The role reports to the provider under clinical supervision for patient care activities and to the designated manager/supervisor for general direction. This position qualifies for a $7,500 commitment incentive paid out over three years. Responsibilities Perform rooming and intake, collecting vital signs, height, weight, and data related to the patient’s reason for visit. Collect patient and family data including medical and social history. Review current medication list, allergies, and preferred pharmacy. Assist the provider with treatments, examinations, and procedures. Collect specimens and perform phlebotomy. Administer medications under provider direction. Perform tests, e.g., EKG, eye exams under provider direction. Review patient record to determine necessary routine health screenings. Ensure exam/procedure rooms contain appropriate supplies, equipment, forms, and educational materials. Provide patient with after‑visit follow‑up instructions and/or educational materials. Prepare, clean, stock, and maintain exam and treatment rooms. Cleans and sterilizes instruments. Assist with patient registration, check‑in/check‑out, appointment scheduling, and scheduling of tests, treatments, and referrals. Answer clinic telephone and manage in‑basket under provider or nurse direction. Assist with emergency situations as directed by provider or nurse. Precept new medical assistant hires and externs. Train other medical assistants in clinic procedures. Assist physician with preventive health measures for patient panel. Perform clinic‑based quality or safety roles (clinic safety coordinator, maintain immunization or medication registry, perform audits). Manage clinic supply. Education Requirements No formal education requirement is specified; however, completion of a Medical Assisting program accredited by CAAHEP or ABHES is strongly preferred. Licensure/Certification Requirements Medical Assistant certification by AAMA, AMT, CCMA, NRCMA, or NCMA. Basic Life Support certification from AHA or ARC. Professional Experience Requirements At least one year of full‑time experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified. Demonstrated possession of competencies outlined in the Medical Assistant, Certified Advancement Worksheet. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to perform the essential functions of the position. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Positive engagement with patients, families, staff, and providers. Computer proficiency for documenting required information into the electronic medical record.
