RN - CVICU

This is a travel position for a CVICU RN at the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center. The start date is July 13, 2026, and the contract lasts for 13 weeks, ending on October 12, 2026. The shift is 3x12-hour nights from 7:30 PM to 8:00 AM. The RN will be required to work every other weekend and holidays as they fall, with floating within the specialty, sister units, and lower acuity as needed.

The candidate must have extensive experience in CVICU/open heart, with a minimum of two years of experience. Required certifications include MD RN license, ACLS, and BLS. Skills required include arterial line management, assist with chest tube insertion/removal, bipap/cpap management, blood product administration, cardiovascular intensive care unit (CVICU) care, care of ventilated patients, central line care/management, chronic/acute renal failure, continuous IV paralytics/neuromuscular blockade, continuous IV sedation, coronary artery bypass graft (CABG), CVA/acute stroke management, CVVHD/CRRT, ECMO, emergency medications, FloTrac/Vigileo monitoring, high flow nasal cannula (HFNC), hypothermia protocol/Arctic Sun, Impella, infection prevention, interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs), interpretation of dysrhythmias, intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP), isolation precautions/PPE, IV insulin protocols, management of dysrhythmias, management of patient with multisystem organ dysfunction/failure, obtain 12 lead EKG/ECG, phlebotomy, PICC line management, post cardiac surgery (directly from the OR), post cardiac surgery (not directly from the OR), pre/post cardiac cath/intervention, procedural sedation administration/monitoring, pulmonary artery line/Swan Ganz monitoring, sheath removal, suctioning (ETT, NT), surgical intensive care unit, titrate cardiac drips, titrate vasoactive drips, transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), valve repair/replacement, ventilator management.

The facility provides interdisciplinary support including physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation services, social services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, transportation, and unit secretary. Patient diagnoses include cardiac surgery-CABG, valve, cabg/valveCAD-STEMI, NSTEMI, AFIB w RVR, cardiogenic shock, vascular-peripheral bypasses, EVART, thoracic-VATS. Special procedures include immediate post-op care for cardiac surgery patients, 1:1 for first 12 hours, vent management with resp therapy, Flo Trac CRRT, IABP, Impella, groin/radial artery management (fem stop, TR bands). Special equipment includes immediate post-op care for cardiac surgery patients, 1:1 for first 12 hours.

The float structure is such that agency nurses float to IMC which is a 1:3 ratio. UMMS policies include local rule, RTO, holiday RTO, auto offer units, scheduling requests, float, return traveler policy, return staff policy, extensions, certs/license requirements, compliance, onboarding, deadline, modules, guaranteed hours, and client details.
