Main purpose of the job: The Safety Technician will be responsible for enforcing and facilitating the organization’s safety and security programs. This role will report directly to the Safety Manager/ Supervisor. Role and activity: Collaborates with management to develop, prepare, and implement safety and security policies and procedures. Coordinates the safety and security programs to promote and ensure a safe working environment. Evaluates the effectiveness of safety and security programs. Facilitates safety training and is active participant in revisions, improvements, and updates. Submits recommendations for improvements and additions to the safety management program including emergency preparedness, incident prevention, general safety, and risk management. Stops operations and activities that could harm staff or equipment. Identifies opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems. Shares environmental safety information with appropriate teams and tracks actions. Complete site safety audits as assigned. This includes but is not limited to daily safety audits and participating in a rotating audit schedule covering machine guarding, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and other critical safety programs. Assists with proper completion of ROI’s and other required documents following any incident or near miss. Maintains housekeeping and inventory of the First Aid room. Assists and act as back up for the site security team. Supports agency and regulatory recordkeeping requirements, including but not limited to management of OSHA 300, 300A, and 301 logs. Partners with leadership teams to develop corrective measures and drive accountability for safety performance. Maintains Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) and chemical inventories. Supports all safety program compliance and employee training. Conducts equipment safety assessments Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules. Attend the morning and afternoon SHO meetings Organizes and coordinates employee hearing tests to support occupational health requirements.Maintain proper documentation. Updates and maintains DRM boards with safety metrics, incident data, and action item status. Conducts Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) to identify workplace hazards and recommend effective risk mitigation strategies. Participates in pre-shift huddles to review daily safety topics Participates in new hire safety orientation and onboarding programs. Provides hands-on Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) training and employee competency verification. Coordinates and delivers required safety training, including onboarding for new hires, annual refresher training, and employee competency verification. Supports and participate in the site’s First Responder Program, including required training and response activities. Leads or assist with incident and near-miss investigations, identify root causes, document findings, and track corrective actions through completion. Maintain safety training records, audit documentation, incident reports, and corrective-action logs. Assists with the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of site safety procedures and Operational Performance Instructions (OPIs). Performs other related duties as assigned. Support incident investigations and root cause analysis. Track incidents and corrective actions. Maintain First Responder certifications. Follow up with HR and operations on corrective action completion. Has authority to identify hazards, recommend corrective actions, and elevate serious safety concerns. Required Skills Extensive knowledge of security protocols and emergency preparedness. Extensive knowledge of company safety policies and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to conduct training. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent interpersonal skills Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software. At least two years of safety and/or security experience preferred. Advanced training or certification in safety and security preferred. Physical requirements: Prolonged periods of standing and walking. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times. Ability to travel throughout facility as required to conduct safety inspections. The work isfast paced. Cold Temperatures: Parts of the facility, such as storage and production areas, may be kept at low temperatures. Requires use of cold-protective PPE. May involve standing, lifting, and walking in refrigerated zones for extended periods. Fast-Paced: Workers often operate under strict timelines to meet production quotas. High-speed manufacturing floor with frequent movement, line assignment changes, and tight production timelines. Standing for Long Hours: Many roles require prolonged standing and repetitive tasks. Repetitive hand and arm movements required. Must be able to stand for hours with frequent bending, reaching, and lifting. Food Safety Regulations: Employees must follow hygiene and safety guidelines, including wearing protective gear (gloves, hairnets, etc.). Team-Oriented: Workers collaborate to ensure smooth production and packaging. The position involves frequent exposure to nuts and other potential allergens. The pay scale for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. At Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The pay range for prospective employees in this role is between $26 and $30 per hour, with opportunities for overtime, shift differential, cold premium pay and annual bonuses (variable depending on company performance).
