Industrial AutoCAD Designer/Drafter

Power Mill Contractors

Job Description

Job Description

About Power Mill Contractors, Inc.

Power Mill Contractors is based in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and has been serving agricultural and industrial customers, ranging from smaller operations to large commercial facilities, since 1968. Many of our customers receive, process, blend, and move bulk materials as part of their daily operations. Our projects help customers improve their operations by replacing existing equipment, upgrading older systems, installing new add-on systems, or helping build complete facilities.

Our in-house team field measures existing sites, creates drawings, coordinates with vendors, and supports our crews during installation. We focus on practical, cost-efficient solutions that fit each customer's needs while working within the space and installation constraints of each facility.

Job Description

We are looking for a detail-oriented AutoCAD Designer/Drafter to join our team. This position is primarily office-based and involves creating CAD drawings, coordinating project activities, and supporting our installation crews as needed.

Field measurements are part of the role, but new hires will work alongside an experienced team member until everyone is comfortable performing those tasks independently. Our work is specialized, so we do not expect someone to understand every aspect immediately.

Because we are a small company, team members often contribute to multiple aspects of a project. Rather than working on the same type of project every day, you'll help develop practical solutions for a variety of facilities and have the opportunity to see projects through design, coordination, and installation. We don't expect anyone to know everything on day one. We're looking for someone with a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn, and an interest in solving real-world design challenges. As your experience and confidence grow, you'll have the opportunity to take on additional responsibilities within the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and update 2D AutoCAD drawings for project planning, estimating, vendor coordination, fabrication, and installation.
  • Field measure existing sites and verify dimensions as needed.
  • Perform basic calculations used for equipment layout, sizing, and design.
  • Develop equipment layouts within existing facilities while considering space limitations, accessibility, and installation requirements.
  • Review your own drawings for accuracy before passing them to a more experienced team member for final review.
  • Review vendor drawings to confirm the equipment footprint fits the project and that the details match what was ordered.
  • Assist with project documentation, spreadsheets, equipment information, quote preparation, and delivery coordination.
  • Support installation crews by answering drawing-related questions as experience develops.
  • Assist with general office or shop tasks as needed.

Work Environment & Safety

  • This position is primarily office-based, with jobsite visits as needed for field measurements, project verification, and installation support.
  • Safety is expected at all times, whether in the office, shop, or on a jobsite.
  • Company-provided PPE is available for jobsite visits when required.

Qualifications

  • Experience with AutoCAD.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Mechanical and mathematical aptitude.
  • Ability to read, understand, and create technical drawings.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to learn, ask questions, and work through problems.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
