Advanced Practice Registered Nurse - Obstetrics and Gynecology - Full Time

APRN - Gynecology Oncology

The University of Miami UHealth Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has an exciting opportunity for a full-time APRN in Miami. The incumbent provides outpatient care primarily to the gynecology oncology service at UMHC/SCCC. This position supports the physicians of the service with medically complicated clinical visits by performing comprehensive histories, physical exams, and procedures. The APRN is also primarily responsible for patient follow-up and education.

Responsibilities include:

• Providing medical care to patients of the Gynecology Oncology outpatient and inpatient service by collecting comprehensive histories; making physical, neurological and gynecological assessments on women in consultation with physicians, according to divisional protocols.
• Performing screening and diagnostic medical procedures as training and experience allow and with physician supervision (for example: pap smear or vaginal culture collection, colposcopy, LEEP (loop electrosurgical procedure), cryotherapy, biopsies of the endometrim, cervix, vagina, and vulva, endocervical curettage, insertion and removal IUD)
• Consulting and referring complicated medical problems to appropriate division physicians or other sub-specialties as needed
• Recruiting and managing patients for participation in Gynecologic Oncology Research Trials
• Assisting with teaching housestaff and students that rotate through the Gynecologic Oncology Service.
• Providing continuity of care for Patients on the Gynecologic Oncology Service
• Making independent decisions in monitoring and altering of drug therapies, and in the initiation of appropriate therapies according to established protocols.
• Functioning within the legal scope of the practice of the APRN and prescribe medication in conjunction with the legal scope of the APRN.
• Following-up on abnormal laboratory tests.
• Performing patient education and participating in patient/family interventions
• Assisting with clinic nursing staff development
• Promoting, supporting, and facilitating individuals engaging in research activities to advance research in practice: evidence-based practice, the conduct of research, research utilization, and dissemination of research results.
• Coordinating, guiding, leading and providing support for Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center activities and serving as the liaison to the nursing shared governance structure.
• Organizing and implementing various clinical research projects with care and accuracy. Monitoring the care and protection of patients in research studies.
• Conducting research needs assessments and using results to construct a strategic plan to develop clinical research for nursing.
• Screening and recruiting subjects for clinical studies. Reviewing and assessing data for clinical studies.
• Collaborating and developing innovative programs to educate, mentor, and enhance the knowledge of nursing staff.
• Fostering the development of an environment conducive to the conduct of inquiry; research and practice.
• Facilitating the development of interdepartmental and interdisciplinary research activities, including generating research interest groups.
• Participating in performance improvement activities, quality improvement and patient safety activities.
• Assisting in maintaining compliance accreditation and other internal and external regulatory standards including the code of conduct.
• Performing other duties as assigned

Education:

• Masters Degree in Advanced Registered Nursing

Certifications:

• Current and valid APRN licensure in the State of Florida
• Must be credentialed to practice by the Hospital Medical Board

Work Experience:

• One year of experience as an APRN, preferably in OB/GYN or oncology.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ensuring compliance with local, state and federal health regulations.
• Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures, and techniques
• Performs in tactful and professional manner.
• Good physical assessment skills required
