Job Summary: Provide essential clinical support in the operating room by assisting anesthesia providers, surgeons, and team members with procedural tasks. Ensure adherence to established standards for instrument processing and sterile technique to promote patient safety and quality care.

Essential Responsibilities

• Assist with preparation and management of surgical instruments and supplies, following guidelines from recognized professional organizations.
• Perform cleaning, decontamination, and sterilization of equipment to maintain a sterile environment.
• Adapt to fluctuating department activity levels and prioritize tasks accordingly.
• Support nursing staff by obtaining specialized supplies promptly to avoid delays in patient care.
• Collaborate with surgical team members to update preference cards and instrument sets as technology and procedures evolve.
• Maintain a professional, quiet environment to enhance patient comfort and satisfaction.
• Adhere strictly to HIPAA regulations and institutional policies regarding patient confidentiality and safety.
• Verify all medications and supplies passed to the sterile field through a double-check system.
• Report any breaches in sterile technique or patient safety concerns immediately.

Professional Development

• Maintain current knowledge of anatomy, surgical instruments, and equipment.
• Serve as a resource and mentor for peers, students, and new staff members.
• Engage in ongoing education and participate in departmental initiatives and in-services.

Customer Service

• Foster strong relationships with physicians, anesthesia providers, and other healthcare professionals.
• Practice effective communication techniques such as AIDET to enhance patient and team interactions.
• Demonstrate flexibility with assignments and shifts to support team needs.

Education and Certification

• Current certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) licensure as applicable.

Experience and Requirements

• Proven ability to work efficiently under pressure and manage multiple requests simultaneously.
• Commitment to maintaining a culture of safety and quality in the operating room.

This position is based in a regional healthcare facility serving the Midwest area of the United States.
