Senior Director, Legal Operations

Serve as the operational, technical and business management leader for the Legal department Partner with Legal leadership to establish and execute the department’s operating strategy Drive efficiency, scalability, financial discipline and continuous improvement Develop, refine and promote the legal department’s short- and long-term operations plan Manage law firm and third-party vendor management programs Optimize financial resources by leveraging technology Support development and implementation of the annual plan Partner with Finance, HR, IT, procurement and other cross-functional teams to drive operational improvements Identify strategies to increase value and reduce outside legal spend Manage strategic plans and initiatives to improve Legal department efficiency Create metrics, monitor progress and benchmark performance internally and externally Develop and manage the legal annual operating plan and department budgets Report global KPIs, spend analysis, efficiency initiatives and technology performance Manage and develop the Billing Supervisor and oversee Legal billing operations Lead the Legal department’s technology and AI strategy Assess and implement matter management, knowledge management, Evisort, ethics and compliance, document management, electronic billing and compliance systems Lead continuous process improvement and automation initiatives with IT Implement electronic billing system enhancements and create spend dashboards Manage master retention agreements, billing guidelines and pricing models for outside counsel Track pricing performance and savings across engagements Manage outside counsel and vendor relationships, conduct RFPs and negotiate fee arrangements Align legal workflows with department priorities Manage new hire onboarding with HR, training and policy implementation Track Continuing Legal Education requirements and provide CLE programming for department lawyers Requirements Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Business, Finance or equivalent combination of education and professional experience 15 plus years of total work experience in operations or law firm management, including ten years in legal operations Demonstrated experience developing and executing strategic and operational plans and delivering measurable improvements in efficiency, cost, quality, and service In-depth understanding of law firm billing, pricing and compensation practices Demonstrated experience with alternative fee arrangement cost modeling At least two years' experience evaluating, implementing and using legal technology, automation, and AI-enabled solutions, including contract lifecycle management, electronic billing and ediscovery Demonstrated ability to translate technology capabilities into meaningful business improvements and cost efficiencies Technology- and AI-savvy Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel Expertise with electronic billing and contract management software Core Competencies Demonstrates expertise in legal operations management, including strategic planning, financial oversight, and technology implementation to drive efficiency and cost savings.
