Fellow, Drug Substance Biotherapeutics – Emerging Technologies, MSAT Job Function: R&D Product Development Job Sub Function: R&D Chemical/Biochemical Engineering Job Category: Scientific/Technology Location: Spring House, Pennsylvania, United States of America Key Responsibilities High‑impact individual contributor influencing and shaping the strategic direction of advanced manufacturing solutions that deliver high‑value competitive products and processes. Scout, benchmark, and evaluate new technologies and advancements in biotherapeutic drug‑substance manufacturing. Identify, pursue, and maintain relationships with internal and external partners, including academic, government, and commercial entities, using MSAT, MTO, and DPDS resources as needed. Provide technical mentorship, guidance, and support to the Emerging Technologies organization, working closely with leads to ensure the best solutions are tested and adopted. Maintain close affiliation with laboratory execution of studies to develop new technologies and innovations. Qualifications Education BA/BS, PhD with a minimum of 10–12 years of experience in a technical field related to pharmaceutical manufacturing (e.g., Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry). Experience and Skills – Required Outstanding track record of delivering meaningful solutions and strategic directions for next‑generation pharmaceutical manufacturing in biotherapeutics. Significant expertise in pharmaceutical manufacturing, with a focus on biotherapeutic or parenteral drug‑substance processes and associated unit operations, including regulatory impacts under GxP. Outstanding skills in scientific communication, including authoring documents (white papers, publications) and presenting quantitative information. Experience and Skills – Preferred Sound grasp of Quality by Design principles and pharmaceutical real‑time release testing. Familiarity with manufacturing cGMPs, Systems Qualification, Process Validations, process sciences, technology transfers, PAT, continuous manufacturing, and modular manufacturing. Experience with modeling (chemometric, mechanistic, machine learning, AI). Demonstrated history of influencing external scientific fields through white papers, presentations, publications, and a strong professional network in academia and industry. Other Requirements Proficient English, both written and spoken. Requires up to 20% domestic and international travel. Benefits Base pay range: $164,000 – $278,800. Vacation: 120 hours per calendar year. Sick time: 40 hours per calendar year (56 hours if residing in Washington state). Holiday pay (including floating holidays): 13 days per calendar year. Work‑Personal‑Family Time: up to 40 hours per calendar year. Parental Leave: 480 hours within one year of birth/adoption/foster care. Condolence Leave: 30 days for an immediate family member, 5 days for an extended family member. Caregiver Leave: 10 days. Volunteer Leave: 4 days. Military Spouse Time‑Off: 80 hours.
