Field Biology Instructor

Job Overview Broadreach leads international summer programs for teens to learn marine biology and conservation while traveling in Costa Rica. Instructors mentor high school students, teaching them a college-level course, facilitating field research, and ensuring safety and development. Location Broadreach is based in NC; instructors will lead programs based in Costa Rica. Responsibilities Mentor and supervise a group of 8–12 students throughout the entire trip, 24/7. Ensure health and safety, maintain a positive attitude in challenging circumstances. Lead games, service‑learning activities, and facilitate inclusive group dynamics. Deliver a college‑level field biology course: lectures, guided discussions, research data collection, and contextual learning with local outfitters. Issue and grade assignments including journals, presentations, midterms, and finals. Assist with program logistics: budgets, student documents, and travel arrangements. Model respectful travel behavior and foster personal growth of students. Requirements Master's degree or PhD in biology, ecology, conservation, or related natural science field. Ability to teach a college‑level field biology course using experiential education methodologies. Experience teaching biology at a high school or college level is ideal. Experience facilitating groups of young adults and creating positive group dynamics. Ability to actively participate in adventure activities such as hiking, snorkeling, rafting, etc. Strong organizational and multitasking skills for managing program expenses, budgets, student documents, and logistics. Demonstrated success working on diverse teams with a collaborative mindset. International travel experience preferred. Spanish language skills are a plus. Compensation $320 per week.
