JOB HIGHLIGHTS

RN Behavioral Health Schedule: PRN (as needed) - Day Shift Location: MO-SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital

JOB SUMMARY

Provides direct patient care to behavioral health patients in accordance with the established policies and procedures of the facility.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Complete admitting and shift assessments on assigned patients, including behaviors, accurately and within the time-frame set in policy and procedures. Utilize critical thinking skills and judgement to analyze patient assessment data and notify the physician of changes in condition. Participate in the development, review and evaluation of multidisciplinary treatment plans as per policies and procedures. Document all nursing care given and adhere to nursing standards and ministry policies and procedures. Consistently and accurately implement and record physicians orders. Assess and monitor patients and the environment for safety within the unit. Serve as a clinical resource and supervise care delivered by LPNs and techs. Educate patients and families based on assessed needs and document education provided in the Electronic Health Record. Apply the existing body of evidence-based practice and scientific knowledge in health care to nursing practice, ensuring that nursing care is delivered based on patient’s age-specific needs and clinical needs as described in the department's Scope of Service. Demonstrate the professional nursing standards defined in the professional practice model. Use the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses to guide responses to current and evolving health and nursing needs. Work in a constant state of alertness and safety. Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or equivalent education for licensing.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Constant use of speech to share information through oral communication. Constant standing and walking. Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0–25 lbs. Frequent sitting, reaching and keyboard use/data entry. Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors. Frequent use of smell to detect/recognize odors. Frequent use of hearing to receive oral communication, distinguish body sounds and/or hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc. Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25–50 lbs. Occasional lifting/moving of patients. Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, gripping and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements. Occasional driving. Rare crawling and running.

REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS

Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) – American Heart Association (AHA) Registered Nurse (RN) – Missouri Division of Professional Registration Or Registered Nurse (RN) issued by Compact State.
