Behavioral Health Nursing Opportunity in Sheridan, Wyoming
Join a meaningful opportunity as a Registered Nurse in Sheridan Memorial Hospitals new Behavioral Health Unit, opening in 2026. This state-of-the-art facility will include an outpatient clinic, crisis stabilization unit, and a six-bed inpatient psychiatric unit expanding access to vital mental health services across Northcentral Wyoming. As an RN, youll play a critical role in building this program from the ground up helping establish care practices, support patients in crisis, and create a therapeutic, patient-centered environment. The Registered Nurse provides safe, effective, patient-centered care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation across inpatient and outpatient settings. The RN prioritizes care based on patient needs, responds appropriately to changes in condition, and communicates effectively with providers and the care team. This role practices within the scope of licensure, education, and competency, and participates in quality and performance improvement activities. In the behavioral health setting, it emphasizes maintaining a therapeutic environment promoting stabilization, recovery, and safe transitions of care based on an individualized care plan.
Essential duties include:
- Adhering to organizational policies, procedures, and service standards.
- Practicing in accordance with applicable regulatory and professional standards.
- Demonstrating professionalism, accountability, teamwork, and effective communication.
- Providing safe, patient-centered care that minimizes risk and supports optimal outcomes.
- Performing comprehensive assessments and implementing individualized plans of care.
- Communicating clearly and effectively with providers, patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team.
- Assessing learning needs and providing education to patients and families.
- Documenting care in accordance with regulatory, legal, and organizational standards.
- Treating patients and families with respect, dignity, and compassion.
Position qualifications include:
- Current unrestricted Wyoming Registered Nurse license.
- A graduate of an accredited school of nursing with an associates degree in nursing.
- Minimum 2 years nursing experience, preferred.
- Minimum 1 year behavioral health experience, preferred.
- BLS, required.
- Central Registry, required.
- De-escalation training required.
- ACLS, required within a year of the start date.
- PALS, required within a year of the start date.
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency or high-stress situations.
- Knowledge of patient safety principles and infection prevention practices.
- Basic computer skills and ability to use electronic health records (EHR).
- Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
