Machine Operator

The Machine Operator is responsible for setting up the machine for production cycles, controlling and adjusting the machine if needed and filling raw materials into the machine in order to produce pillows of various shapes and sizes. Works efficiently in a fast-paced, repetitive environment necessary in the production of pillows with accuracy and speed to achieve company expectations necessary to meet and exceed customer demands. This position places a strong significance on effective teamwork, clear communication, sound judgment, safety orientation, achieving and maintaining production efficiency and a dedication to the quality of our product.

Essential duties and responsibilities include ensuring that the quality of the product meets the product specifications, observing all safety rules and maintaining a clean and safe work area. Performs duties of general help and job assignments as required. All Live Comfortably associates play a crucial role in meeting our customer requirements and are expected after initial training to perform with minimal supervision. Associates may be asked to assist with other duties and work in other departments when needed to meet those requirements.

Operator duties include utilizing filling equipment assigned to the line and reporting any equipment problems to the supervisor and/or maintenance immediately based on departmental process. Maintain production efficiency, and ensure quality of raw materials and finished goods meet product specifications to include verifying components with Bill of Material (BOM).

Scrolling machine operator duties include minimizing all set-up time, setting scrolling trays to correct product size for proper scrolling, setting computer to scroll correct product pattern on specified unit, inspecting sewing and cording of products perimeter as clamping onto tray for scrolling and reporting any defects to supervisor, checking the closing area and tags on product fill opening to ensure tags sewn in correctly and stitching is of good quality with minimal to zero fabric tuck in closing, prior to activating scrolling process, ensuring distribution of down is even or if fiber filled, fiber is clamped evenly to avoid pull out and separation from shell perimeter, inspecting product for fabric flaws, soiling, or holes, trimming thread less than " in length prior to packaging, confirming no skipped or looped stitches within scrolled pattern and that borders are even from side to side and there is the proper number of stitches per inch, monitoring production process hourly to ensure efficiency standards are on target, and packaging the finished product. Assigned to varied work stations as production needs require, assist team in maintaining a safe, clean, neat and orderly work area, and provide input to Supervisor for equipment problems.

Requirements, skills and qualifications include ability to work independently with minimal supervision, ability to read, write and follow directions, ability to work repetitive jobs at a fast pace, and physical stamina in order to stand and handle materials for extended periods.

Experience and proficiency in competencies necessary to be successful in role include effective communication and interpersonal skills, strong teamwork with ability to establish and maintain relationships in a professional manner, exhibits a high sense of urgency and works well under pressure, possesses a positive manner and approach, practices sound judgement, adaptable and flexible, high level of reliability to include maintaining good attendance, and high level of superior quality standards.

Physical demands include standing most of time, walking, using hands to finger, handle, or feel, reaching with hands and arms, and maneuvering around production equipment throughout the shift. Occasionally required to balance, stoop and bends regularly to move/lift material or equipment (typically less than 50 lbs). Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust and focus.

Work environment includes manufacturing/production floor, frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, moderate noise level, exposure to dust and floating particles used in the manufacturing, storage and inventory of raw materials and finished goods.
