Job Title: Production Supervisor Job Description
The Production Supervisor oversees all activities on a manufacturing shift, leading multiple departments and ensuring production goals are consistently met. This role is highly hands-on, with significant time spent on the production floor working directly with team members, monitoring processes, and driving performance. The supervisor coordinates closely with other shift leaders, takes ownership of shift outcomes, and ensures smooth handoffs between shifts.
Responsibilities
Lead and supervise the entire shift across 45 departments, each with approximately 45 team members, ensuring production targets and quality standards are achieved.
Spend roughly 70% of the time on the production floor, conducting plant walk-throughs, observing operations, and providing real-time guidance and support to team members.
Motivate, coach, and develop employees to maintain high levels of productivity, engagement, and performance.
Ensure that all scheduled tasks and production activities are completed during the shift, proactively identifying and addressing issues that could impact output.
Conduct pass-over meetings with the previous supervisor to review what was completed, what remains outstanding, and any equipment or process issues, then develop a clear action plan for the shift.
Provide cross-coverage for other supervisors when needed and become cross-trained across the entire facility to effectively manage different departments.
Maintain a strong focus on safety, ensuring that all team members follow established safety procedures and that the work environment remains compliant and secure.
Apply lean manufacturing and process improvement principles to identify inefficiencies, reduce waste, and improve overall production performance.
Manage and coordinate work for 15 or more employees across multiple departments, balancing workloads and resources to meet production schedules.
Support and enforce company policies, procedures, and standards, including ISO-related practices, to maintain consistency and compliance.
Use appropriate management styles, including coaching, discipline, and performance feedback, to address issues and support employee growth.
Monitor production capabilities and equipment performance, escalating issues when necessary to minimize downtime and maintain productivity.
Essential Skills
At least 4 years of experience as a production supervisor in an industrial manufacturing environment.
Proven experience managing 15 or more employees across multiple departments on a shift.
Strong supervision and leadership skills, with the ability to oversee multiple teams and operations simultaneously.
Hands-on production supervision experience, including working directly on the floor with employees.
Demonstrated safety awareness and the ability to enforce safety standards and procedures.
ISO experience and familiarity with working in an ISO-regulated manufacturing environment.
Excellent people skills, including the ability to motivate, develop, and, when necessary, discipline team members.
Solid management skills with the ability to plan, organize, and execute shift activities effectively.
Experience with lean manufacturing concepts and process improvement initiatives.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Background in food manufacturing, which closely aligns with the facilitys operations.
Ability to adapt and use multiple managerial styles, such as servant leadership, autocratic, and other approaches, depending on the situation and team needs.
Strong communication skills for effective coordination between shifts and departments.
Comfort working in a fast-paced industrial environment with changing priorities.

Work Environment
This role is based in an industrial manufacturing facility where the production area can be hot and has a noticeable glue smell. The position is on second shift, typically from 1:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with some overtime expected as production demands require. The environment is fast-paced and hands-on, requiring frequent movement throughout the plant and close interaction with production teams and equipment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of South Bend, IN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $37.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
