• Pay Rate: $60.00 / Hour (USD)
• Shift / Schedule: Night Shift, 4x12 Hours (18:45-07:15)

Job Summary

This is a Medical-Surgical travel nursing position on a unit that manages patients with severe injuries to bones, joints, and/or soft tissue; traumatic brain injuries; spine injuries and pain; neurological trauma/nerve damage (small population); and subdural hematoma. The unit operates with Pyxis, Epic, and SBAR systems. Unit orientation consists of a 12-hour unit orientation and 16 hours of organizational education. Contract staff will be assigned to and expected to work a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team , and may be required to report to work during a catastrophic event, mass casualty, or disaster. Consolidation to the Centralized Office mid-contract may occur, and contract staff may be preassigned to units as needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer heparin drips, PCA, blood product administration
• Perform colostomy care, feeding tube care and management
• Manage central line care/management and peripheral line care/management
• Perform phlebotomy, IV starts, and PICC line management
• Manage dysrhythmias, O2 Protocol, and non-invasive airway management
• Follow isolation precautions/PPE protocols
• Manage traumatic brain injury, ortho trauma, and surgical drains
• Care for chest tubes (Emerson/Pleuravac), nasal cannula, oral suctioning, and tracheostomy management
• Provide wound care
• Document using Epic
• Float to similar units and alternate care locations with inpatients holding
• Work every other weekend as assigned
• Participate in Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team assignments as required

Education Requirements

• Active RN license required
• BLS certification required
• Must pass EKG Testing prior to start for this specialty

Required Experience

• Minimum 2 years of experience required in the last 5 years
• First-time travelers accepted
• Local candidates accepted

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

• 12-hour night shifts (18:45-07:15), 4x12 schedule
• 36 or 48 hours accepted per week; if 48 hours, overtime is not billed until after 48 hours
• Patient ratio: 1:6-7 (must be comfortable with these ratios)
• Float requirement: floating to similar units and alternate care locations with inpatients holding
• Weekend requirement: traveler will be assigned to every other weekend
• Contract staff may be required to report to work during a catastrophic event, mass casualty, or disaster (Storm Team/Hurricane Team)
• Scrubs: Navy
• Flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions only)

Important Notes

• RTO after booking is not allowed and is not allowed to be worked out onsite. Any call-offs or additional RTO on unit could possibly result in a contract cancellation and DNR (Do Not Rehire).
• RTO maximum: 7 days (Aya Auto Offer)
• Must pass EKG Testing prior to start for this specialty
• 12-hour unit orientation and 16-hour organizational education required upon start
• Consolidation to the Centralized Office mid-contract may occur; contract staff may be preassigned to units as needed
