Material Handler / Inventory Specialist
Location: 17101 E Hwy 67 McCamey, TX 79752
Work Model: Onsite --SCHEDULE: Mon-Fri 7am-3:30pm, OT is as needed
Position Overview
Entry-level Material Services/Stores position responsible for inventory accountability, receiving, issuing, storing, moving, shipping, and delivering materials.
Work is performed under direct and/or semi-direct supervision while completing a training and learning process. Additional related or incidental duties may be assigned.
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED required.
Minimum of 1 year of experience in inventory control/management, material handling, warehousing, or a related field.
Strong working knowledge of shipping, receiving, logistics, and relocating inventory is required.
Construction and heavy-equipment operating experience are preferred.
Computer and Inventory Skills
Inventory-management experience and basic computer skills are required.
Must be able to use or learn inventory-management systems such as Maximo.
Experience with Microsoft Excel and Word is preferred.
Must be willing to learn additional programs and operate computers, printers, scanners, calculators, and other office equipment.
Must understand basic math and accurately maintain inventory, receiving, shipping, and material records.
Primary Responsibilities
Receive, inspect, identify, issue, store, move, and deliver materials while maintaining accurate inventory records.
Verify material quantities and inspect items for identity, damage, breakage, and overall condition.
Identify and process returned materials; return usable items to stock and properly sort unusable materials for scrap.
Prepare and package materials for shipment or storage and complete all required shipping, receiving, and inventory documentation.
Perform inventory cycle counts, report discrepancies or abnormal conditions, and process approved inventory adjustments.
Assist with organizing storage areas and relocating bins, racks, and material locations.
May handle hazardous materials, including gasoline, oil, oil containing PCBs, and lead-acid batteries, in accordance with all required safety and environmental procedures.
Equipment Requirements
Must be able to safely operate material-handling equipment, including forklifts, hand trucks, low-lift trucks, hoists, overhead cranes, order pickers, road vehicles, and other assigned equipment.
Experience operating heavy equipment is preferred; training may be provided on specific equipment.
Preferred equipment experience includes:
- Case 821 Wheel Loader/All-Terrain Forklift handling materials weighing up to approximately 16,000 pounds.
- JLG Telehandlers operating various sizes capable of handling approximately 7,000 to 12,000 pounds.
Materials may be extremely heavy, long, or awkwardly shaped.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements
Must be able to safely lift up to 70 pounds and successfully complete the Physical Ability Test (PAT).
Must be able to perform frequent standing, lifting, material movement, and other physical work.
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Most laydown yards are outdoors, and employees must be willing to work in heat, cold, inclement weather, and changing weather conditions.
Safety, Dress Code, and PPE
Safety is the highest priority; AEP's #1 goal is Zero Harm.
Must follow all company safety rules, operating regulations, policies, and established work practices.
Steel-toe boots are required and must be provided by the worker.
Jeans/long pants and T-shirts are permitted; clothing may not contain inappropriate words or images.
AEP provides all other required PPE.
Employees who wear eyeglasses must provide their own side shields, as AEP does not provide them.
Driving, Travel, and Relocation
Some local travel may be required, and employees may operate AEP/company vehicles.
A Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check is required.
Must possess the appropriate valid state driver's license.
If a CDL is required, it must be obtained within 6 months of entering the job classification, or the employee may be required to vacate the classification.
Contract workers may be asked to relocate temporarily or permanently within a specific territory. Candidates should consider this possibility before accepting an offer.
