Job Summary
The Sleep Lab Technician performs independently and with self-initiative under indirect supervision. This position is responsible for conducting sleep studies, monitoring patient responses, operating specialized diagnostic equipment, and maintaining accurate documentation. The Sleep Lab Technician provides high-quality patient care while ensuring patient safety, confidentiality, and compliance with department, organizational, and regulatory standards. This role contributes to the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders through professional, compassionate, and technically proficient care.

Minimum Qualifications
• Must be able to read, write, and understand verbal and written communication.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Basic understanding of sleep study procedures and patient care principles.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Basic computer skills and proficiency in data entry and documentation.
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
• Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and exercise professional judgment.

Preferred Qualifications
• Certified Polysomnographic Technician (CPSGT) preferred but not required.
• Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) preferred but not required.
• Previous experience in a sleep laboratory, respiratory care, or related healthcare setting.
• Knowledge of sleep disorders, sleep study equipment, and diagnostic procedures.
• Experience with electronic medical records and sleep study software applications.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
• Perform ordered sleep studies in accordance with department policies and procedures.
• Prepare patients for sleep studies and explain procedures, processes, and expectations.
• Verify patient identity prior to testing and ensure proper documentation.
• Monitor patients throughout sleep studies and respond appropriately to patient needs.
• Operate and troubleshoot sleep study equipment while demonstrating proficiency in equipment use.
• Communicate with physicians and other healthcare professionals regarding testing results and patient concerns as needed.
• Complete required paperwork, documentation, and computer-based functions accurately and timely.
• Maintain accountability for assigned tasks and responsibilities.
• Participate in continuing education and learning opportunities to maintain competency and knowledge.
• Adhere to all department, organizational, and regulatory policies, procedures, and performance standards.
• Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and adequately stocked work environment.
• Assist in all areas of the department as needed to support operations and patient care.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and departmental performance activities.
• Practice safe procedures and adhere to all applicable safety standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, squat, kneel, reach, and perform repetitive movements throughout the workday.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and assist with lifting more than 50 pounds when appropriate assistance is available.
• Ability to push and pull wheelchairs, stretchers, carts, and other patient care equipment.
• Ability to distinguish colors and visual indicators on monitoring equipment.
• Ability to utilize fine motor skills, grasping, and forearm rotation for equipment operation and patient care activities.
• Ability to work in an environment with moderate exposure to bodily fluids, hazardous materials, and other healthcare-related risks.
• Ability to use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow infection prevention practices.
